Pre rut activity was definitely on. Saw 5-6 different bucks this morning. I may have seen this one a few months earlier in a bachelor group while in velvet, but can't be sure. I never had him on camera after a few thousand pic's and several months of running a Cuddeback.
Bucks like this one are way too smart to hit a feeder. About ten minutes before seeing this buck, a lone doe passed through the same spot. A doe this time of the year without yearling fawns is a good sign she's getting ready for a serious relationship. My first look at this buck was at 108 yards, really close. Broadside, with his head turned in my direction, I'm about 60-70' above him, and got a good look at how tall and wide his rack was. I wish it had lasted longer but this buck was on the ground within five seconds of me seeing him. I do wish I had been in a better position to get great pic's. I was alone, hunting partners had left due to warm weather. It was getting to 70 degrees quick, and I had to get him in the Ranger by myself. Gutted him, used my hand winch and hauled [censored] to the processor one hour away. Tikka CTR, .308 20" barrel, Leupold VX-5HD 3-15 x 44, Hornady Superformance 165 gr. SST bullet. [Linked Image]

Congratulations on a nice buck. Glad you had the hand winch, sure does make it easier.

I told you that you weren't going to need that winch, because you'd have "help"... and I left early. Reeder05 = POS.

Gah, wish I would have stayed and enjoyed the moment with ya.

Congrats again on a heck of a buck!!

Yeah, I was wondering where my "helpa's" were LMAO. I was so stoked! Nothing mattered. That little hand winch made it relatively easy. I'll prolly cut some off of the uni-strut making it shorter. Next time, I'll drag him up the hill to my stand, tie him off to a tree, turn around and get below him, tailgate down and back to hill, untie him and watch him slide into the bed.
On to Mule Deer season.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Thanks. I'll score him when I pick up the Euro mount. I did get a solid inside measurement of 20-1/8"
