Congratulations to both of you!

So it was a disaster with a great ending. We got up a Crack of dawn and went out. Since he'd never even shot the gun, I told him he wasn't going to shoot and we would go to range after morning hunt and if he did well we would go for it on afternoon hunt. He wasn't happy at all and said, "I can do it, and when I do, you'll go "OH" . So we saw several nice deer that morning and he was super pissed. It was then I realized his chair didn't go up high enough for him to even get on target.

So we get to the range, and he does great, took a few shots bit after that he hit the kill zone over and over at a hundred yards. I was impressed. So I drew him a reticle and said the feeder is at 140, so you need to aim with the first tick down. Then set about trying to figure out how to get him higher up. Brought a stool that was too high, then brought some pillows that seemed to be the ticket, but each time he was ready to shoot they were slipping and he was all over the place. I called it, said dude we'll have to be better prepared next time. This deer walked out and he was about to freak out if I didn't let him shoot. He said, let me sit in your lap. I raised up chair, set him up, he said he was on it, can i shoot ? he asked

I felt like the biggest failure. Didn't prepare at all, didn't get him much gun time didn't have him set up properly and here we were...I almost said no. He's gonna miss anyway, and it'll be my fault. "Go for it" and it dropped like a sack of potatoes. We both stared at each other with open mouths for a second. Then went nuts. It was great. Then I was up till midnight jacking with it while he slept. Oh well, he earned it. Today there was a family get together and he got all kinds of back slaps and fist bumps. He's the fifth person to get their first buck in that same pasture. My season could be over today and I'd be happy. Good times.
