The neighbor’s buddy missed a doe this morning at 100ish yards. The miss was so bad, so I’m told, that the doe hesitated before trotting off - not even scared. So, they came over to re-zero, but no matter how many clicks you clicked, the crosshairs never moved. The gun caliber is 6.5CM, which makes it so accurate a fellow may not even need a scope - I mean…you all know that, I’m sure. So, it had to be the scope. Off to town and he got a Sig scope and we sighted it in. If he misses tonight, oooooo baby, we are gonna have fun with him.

The rifle, by the way, is a Savage Axis (I think) and is small enough that maybe it’s a compact version. The metal was all coated desert tan and the stock was camo painted. I’m not really a Savage fan, but I have to admit that is was a very nice looking rifle. It doesn’t shoot like the Tikka T3 in 260 that ChadTRG had put together for me, but it was still decent. And I shoot my hand loads, whereas he had factory ammo.

Nice team effort getting the guy back zeroed. up I've bought 3 of those Sig Whiskey scopes. Great value for the money I think.

And the good thing about a Bushnell is that they will fix it for free! Call 'em, get an RMA, and ship it to 'em. Can't go wrong with a Bushy.

Which Bushnell specifically?

They have some Walmart blister pack lines that could double as a tack hammer.

And they have some scope lines I'd put as top tier competition long range rifle scopes.

Savage is putting the Bushnell Banner on their package Axis rifles. If that is the case here, I’m not surprised it failed.

I think it was the ‘package’ scope that came with the rifle. It was certainly not one of the high dollar Bushnell scopes. He was not overscoped. I didn’t say anything, but it would behoove him to spend a bit more on scopes.

After he shot it a bit, I looked through the scope. Something was busted in there. I told him that the scope was dead.

Yeah if it was the package scope that came with a cheap Savage, no surprise there. The Elite Tactical lineups are made in Japan and putting them against the Savage package scopes is like comparing a Toyota Yaris to a Lexus LS.

I recently traded for a package Savage deal in .243 that has a SIG Bushmaster 3-12X. (I had never heard of this line of scopes) Over the last couple of weeks of load development I've put quite a few rounds through the new package and I've been quite impressed, so far. The usual Savage out-of-the-box accuracy, and the optic is very clear, has held zero, and the click adjustments for elevation and windage seem right on. I figure I'll shoot it until it quits and then toss it out.

I’ve been trying to figure out how I could use the Elite 4200 target scope in the classifieds for several days now. Most people don’t know that Bushnell makes a higher quality scope, or that Tasco used to and SWFA bought them and has been selling out of them faster than they can stock them. That’s right, the Super Chicken is a Tasco for those that don’t know.

Sorry to derail.

"That’s right, the Super Chicken is a Tasco for those that don’t know." I have no idea what you're talking about! 'Splain it to me in words I can understand, please!

Sorrry. SWFA SS 5-20 was originally a Tasco. SS being Super Sniper but with the bird as their logo people have been calling them Super Chicken for years.

Tasco made some pretty good stuff back when. I had no clue the SWFAs were Tasco. Explains why they were so solid.
