When I got up this morning, I had no intention of shooting a deer. I tagged out opening weekend last year and the rest of the year seemed to be a let down. I had made my mind up to just see what it was about the first couple sits. I had a nice, young 8 come to the feeder when it went off. He should be a stud in a year or two. About 30 minutes of watching him, he throws his head up and I can see movement behind him. This buck came in and I could immediately tell he was mature. Once I got a good look at him, my plan went to hell. He never gave me a shot and moved off into the thick brush. I thought he had moved on. I had already made my plans to come back to this same spot in the evening. About 15 minutes later some movement caught my eye about 50 yards to the west of where I spotted him last. I could tell it was a deer and I was assuming it was him. I remembered that I had a grunt call and gave it a few toots. Nothing. About 60 seconds later, he comes out of the tree line on an all out sprint. He topped a little hill stopped while he was trying to out where the fight was. That was all the time I needed. This is a very respectable deer for our little place….
