Once in a while I’ll get a hankering for a pot of black eyed peas. I didn’t have all of the ingredients that I normally use and didn’t feel like going to the store, so just used what I had.

Browned up some boneless smoked ham hocks.

Then added some ground venison and seasoned her up.

Fried up some tortillas in butter to dip in the juice, hmn hmn. Got my fix, now I’m stuffed.

Thanks for lookin’.

I hate to say this but I don't like black eyed peas. If they were so good then they would be eaten all the time. Not just at new years. I don't eat them then.

I am in between your opinion and the love them crowd. Texas caviar is just about the only way I really enjoy them, and I don't need to hear the, "well you just never have had them cooked right."

Man, you just never have had them cooked right! grin

Yeh, to me they are like liver. I don't want them all the time, but whenever I get a craving for them I will hurt myself on them. Great, now I'm craving liver. roflmao Maybe liver & black eyed peas next.

I prefer fresh or fresh frozen. I only eat the canned or dried varieties if that’s all I can get.

I've only had them fresh from the garden once that I can remember, from my Grandma's garden in Arkansas. I remember eating them, but was too little to remember now what they tasted like. I always use the dried peas.

I used to get a lot at a place outside Fredericksburg, but that farm shut down. When we go through Luling, they are usually available.

Man, I can't imagine having a wife that weighed 116lbs. I'd be scared to break something.

I guess I'm used to them big German kick boxer type women that you can wrestle with.

I do eat them all the time. Best fresh but canned will do. Trappey's with japs is good for canned.

Can I come over for a bowl? Reminds me of meals my grandparents made.
Also where are you finding boneless hocks?

Never out of buttermilk! Just make your own with a little white vinegar or lemon juice and milk, to counteract the alkalinity of the baking soda in your recipe.
