I’m picking up a shipping crate tomorrow that I’m planning on building a box blind out of. The dimensions are 90”x60x86”. Has anyone done this? I figured with a little framing on the inside, windows, door and a heavy coat of paint it would last a while.

They work fine just heavy. Cut windows, put metal or plastic corrugated roof and cut windows/doors and you are in business.

Bought Several on here from a member years ago. Just make sure the roof is sealed well and has a slope to it, that's the only flaw we found. You can even put two next to each other and cut out a wall for even more room.

Should work well, trying to find one or two around San Antonio to haul out to the property.

Dad picked a couple of these up a few years back and they work well. As you've already said, frame up the inside. After 3 or 4 years, they'll start to lean a bit and the door wont mesh up well with the opening. We didn't frame our two up, and both have started tweaking a bit. A stiff coat of paint and some tin on the roof, and you've got a really nice blind. We threw carpet in them to help with noise.

Use long deck screws to put 2x2 framing on all of the inside corners. I actually applied Titebond II glue to the attached sides of the 2x2s. They add a lot of strength and makes the box rigid. I used 1x4s for outlining the door and windows. I flat roofing tin on the roof. Silicon the screws in the roof on the outside and back the screw area with 1/4's on the inside. Added shelves and carpet to floor and half way up the walls.
Now for the critique, it was too large, my second packing crate, I cut the size down to 4x6, basically took the crate apart and rebuilt it and used the ply to sheath the smaller box. The 4x6 was big enough for me and our son.

One of my employees took one home that we received some equipment in and used it for a doghouse. It lasted quite a few years. He didn't do anything but turn it upside down and cut a hole for the dogs. With paint and maybe a tin roof it should last a long time.
