A new sounder appeared 10/18, Monday and Tuesday night. They arrived between 8-10PM. I reviewed my game cards on Wednesday night and decided to hunt Thursday night. I waited until about 11:30PM and no pigs. I was up before 6:00am and the fog was so thick you couldn’t the pond from the house(100yds). About 6:40 one alarm went off. I assumed it was deer and wasn’t going to check. Decided to look and could barely make out hogs with the thermal. I geared up and went down. They moved to the other feeder just as I was setting up on the tripod. I moved to the other tripod and set up. There were 10-14 hogs pretty spread out. I took one of the largest ones and ½ split one way and 1/2 another. I couldn’t get a 2nd shot. One boar down.

10/21 - Same sounder still coming in but now early morning. Cameras show that early week even in morning daylight. I set tripods up later afternoon. About 10:20pm a single hog was at the 1st feeder. I walked down and shot him right under the feeder. About 10 minutes later a sounder came in. The dead boar didn’t bother them. They were eating all around him. I picked the largest hog and took it. It was a sow that fell just behind the boar. I am assuming the boar was just running ahead of the sounder and was part of it(?).

About 1:30am the alarm went off, the sounder came back but to the second feeder. I walked down to the 2nd tripod. They were very tight under the feeder. I tried to pick a larger hog with a clear shot. Hog was hit hard but ran across my road. I did not go look for it waiting for daylight. I found the hog, a sow, about 40 yards off the road. Guy down the road shot 2 sows, a boar, and 3 little ones about 7pm that same night, different sounder i think.

Probably headed out tomorrow to see if I can get a few more.

Y'all are doing good work! Nice that the neighbors are also taking out hogs along with you.

J-Hill- tell me about your alarm?
Do you have an alarm set up like a driveway monitor or is it just your camera going off and you
getting a notice?

thanks

I am using Chamberlain Driveway alarms. You can use 5(?) motion detectors per base unit. I keep the base plugged into power so they are always connected. I was trying to stay up all night to kill hogs now I stay up as long as I want/can and then get some sleep and let the alarms do their thing. I use 2/feeder and they are about 110 yds max from the base. I change the batteries (lithium!!) in the motion detectors 2x per year and they are always connected.

BUT, and its a big BUT, they detect everything. Deer, coons, ducks, etc. So you have to look, or not, when they go off to know whats there. I have line of sight to both feeders from my porch.

I tried the Harbor Freight $9 units and the first ones worked but the 2nd ones didn't.

My cell service is spotty so I haven't tried cell cameras yet. I want to, just can't justify hem yet.

Good work. Getting up and going out at 1:30AM shows some dedication, but it sounds like it pays off.

Keep after 'em!

To add more to the above, I use 1/2" metal electrical conduit (was about $2/10ft) and a piece of 1x4 pressure treated (scrap), and 2 conduit hangers to mount the sensors. You can us a 3-4' piece driven into the ground and can adjust the height with the hangers. I replaced the screws with longer screws and wing nuts. doesn't seem to bother the deer or hogs. You have to check them and readjust because the deer will rub on them.
