Committed hunters and/or landowners suddenly get a few new friends as deer season gets closer? I noticed when we were South Texas decades long lessors and now more so as a 13 year landowner, I get a decent number of new friends or out of woodwork friends whom suddenly are "serious" hunters and would like an invite or two or three offering up just their presence. Do you all have the same happen? A bit humorous but also irritating.

Just like having a truck. All your friends want you to help them move.

Happens around dove season here more so than deer season. But it’s irritating none the less

I have a good friend of mine who i invited last year and most of the summer to come out, hang and shoot hogs. Never could get him to come out.

Now he wants to know if we can schedule a weekend and maybe bring his brother out to shoot a deer....

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Or a utility trailer or winch on your truck, etc...etc....

OLD friends and family get my help. Moochers....do not.

I'm sure I will go to Hell for that....but I'm older now and not as patient as I once was.

I’ve been invited by some friends to come hunt over the years but have never accepted. I just don’t feel right about hunting without putting any “investment” into the place. Maybe I’m just weird....

Yes, just got our place and already seeing some friends who felt the lease price was to high to join a lease with me offer to come hunt with me. BIL who never hunted now is posting pics of himself with a bow on social media, I’m sure it’ll be a matter of time before he asks about coming out to help hunt some deer.

Yep…every year I get a few more hints. Always a hard no. Where are they when it’s mowing, planting, cutting, chopping, feeding time?

All my life. Some folks think life is a one way street. I really enjoy sharing the opportunity to hunt with true friends. Deer season "friends" (aka "fair weather friends") are a drag and a disappointment. Don't insult my intelligence.

I rarely, if ever get asked by someone to come hunting on my place....friend or anyone for that matter . But, I do get asked by friends to come hunt with them on their land or lease. Those hunts are really fun and special to me in that I was asked to come hunt. I don't have to kill anything to have a great hunt on those hunts. I have never asked anyone to come hunt on their land.

I wouldn’t pay to kill a deer. I enjoy hunting with my best Freind and his sons. They enjoy quail hunting with me and my boys. We’ve tried out taking other folks deer hunting but they don’t work out. Hunting with us is not a vacation. My buddy and I have hunted together for 40 years. I had to go to West Tx today and am spending the night at his ranch. There was some plumbing that needed doing and I took care of it. He can’t make it down to his place as much as I can so I keep the feeders filled. It works out for everyone. The time we get to spend with each other and our sons is priceless. I don’t have a whole lot of friends but the ones I do have, I’d do anything for.

Sometimes when people find out we have a place in E TX, they want to "help" with the hog problem. They never want to "help" mow, fix stuff, or pitch in on the electric bill. Maybe I'm just an azzhole, I prolly need help.

Second this. Also I’m usually the one coming out of the woodwork to call old friends to try and get them to hunt on my place. Getting our doe numbers is hard work for just My dad and I.

Forget people wanting to go with you. When we had an old family timber tract outside of San Augustine, everyone I came in contact with at our customer, Deep East Electric Cooperative, had heard from the Manager that we had it and would needle me with "Whereabouts exactly is your mom's place?" realmad

I have a relative that has asked and been asked to come shoot a doe or hog, then never commits to a time. I quit offering.

I do let friends, especially those with sons wanting to learn, come out and hunt on occasion. The price is 5 bags of corn and I enjoy it almost as much as hunting myself.

I get several calls every year right before dove season and deer season that start with, “Mike old buddy how’s thing going”
Only call I get from these people every year. After 25 years most of them have got the message and have gave up. roflmao

I do have a couple of big dove hunts for friends and family every year. We have a big time shoot a lot of shells.

Have offered to take a few friends to our place to deer hunt. Dont think we have ever had anyone ask. Out of all the people we have offered to take only one has actually shot a deer.

My FIL always wanted to go. We took him, he didnt have that great a time missed a deer after talking up his head shooting ability and gut shot the next one which I gutted iced and processed because he didnt want anything except the backstraps. I kindly offered to handle the backstraps as well and we invited them over for dinner. He has never asked again and it will never be offered again. He does hint around to his other SIL that he would love to go hunting on their place. What he really wants it to be invited to shoot the biggest deer on the place and be viewed as the great white hunter for the rest of time etc. Think my BIL is smarter than me.

I have been invited to go help and work on buddies places, i have shot hogs and been invited to shoot does and bucks but never taken up the offer as I cant return the favor. They have been to our place and done the same.

Your FIL and my FIL must be brothers. I love the guy, and he was a helluva shot, but is always wanting to show everyone "how it's done" rather than just enjoy the company of family. He's at the very end of his life, on oxygen, can't walk to the end of his driveway without needing a rest (smoked for 50+ years). All he talks about is going to my place and hunting. We gave them some dates for them to come out (my MIL has to be there to take care of him), on the off chance that they could even handle the drive out. Just keeping him warm enough would be a challenge. Of course, he wants to shoot something with an open-sighted pistol. AND he's taken it upon himself to invite my son and son-in-law for a "guys only" weekend. He has no perception of his condition and how much work it is just to take care of him and no respect that it's his daughter and son-in-law's ranch, their invitation, and their rules. 'Justs wants to be respected and show off.

Can't recall the last request to come to the lease but when it is for a young person to hunt that makes a difference.
