My son finally has a buck on his hit list but I'm a little hesitant. We've been going back and forth on his age.

Thoughts? Sorry for the poor quality images. All I have.

IMO, he is a good young-ish buck. 3.5, perhaps 4.5, on his way to being an excellent buck. The best thing that could happen to him this year would be to get in a fight in the next 5 days and break off a mainbeam just enough to make him unrecognizable until next Fall.

As for an age and score, I am seeing mid-130s to LOW 40s and maybe 4.5.

Age is right at 4+ but that's not a 130s buck. Right around 120. If he likes it, let him have at it regardless of score...

Agree with DQk on looking 4 to me
Tough pics to age by though for sure.
Guessing low to mid 120s

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I am leaning more to a 5 yr old in those pics and low 120's on score.

Yeah, I was thinking 4+ and about 125. I told my son to let him walk and wait till next year but he's already convinced he's a shooter. We shall see. smile

Imo, not fully mature….. I set up a hunting path for mine and tried to be consistent with my message and mentoring…..because we are not dependent on the meat to survive we strived to let bucks get fully mature…..and I never tried to make them mature when they were not, to satisfy their need to kill in the moment…..worked out great for mine….

Let the young man shoot the buck he likes. You will never regret that decision.

Let him shoot.

Oh he will shoot. He has yet to get a buck with his bow and he's dying to make this one his first.
