How do yall see this season going?

I spent the morning scouting and checking out my normal spots, NTX. Saw 1 coot and 1 gadwall. One of my indicator ponds which is at a horse farm normally has 50+ ducks on it was empty. Some of my other indicator ponds had a few ducks on it but not many. This time last year I was seeing quite a few mallards, gadwall and wood ducks.

With the drought well be hunting older birds and I think we will have to be on our A game as well as completely on the X to have good hunts. Overall I think birds will be here to be shot, just going to have to work harder at them this year to stay on them. But the private land guys that have water and food will probably do pretty good, but when do they not. I'm really hoping people are back to work and there isn't as many people on public land as there was last year.

High plains opens this weekend, south the following and then its out turn in 2 weeks. Are yall seeing birds yet? How do you see the season going? Will you be hunting public or private?

Ducks started showing up on my pond at the house about 2 weeks ago. Went from 1 gadwall to about 20 or so this morning. Have about a 5 acre pond down the road from me that has seen some bigger numbers but look like divers just passing through as they are there for a day or so, then gone.

Drought or not, we average around the same number of birds per person each year for the last 20yrs, so we will get ours, but expect it to be tougher to stay on them. 99% public hunts for us.

Few private hunts, mostly public. Fair season.

My lease north of Matagorda is loaded with birds. Thousands of teal and pintail. Healthy numbers of spoonies and gaddies as well. First flock of snows showed up late last week on the front. Things are looking good for the opener.

My mid-coast leases have tons of birds for now but I fear that a good many of those won,t stay past the first week of season. They,ll be headed to south TX and Mexico quick. I think that many of the non-breeders have come down early and will be heading on south just the same way. Hoping for good reinforcements mid-season but I think it,s gonna take some serious cold up north to get them here.

The question comes up every season, but I never worry about it much.

I'm back in NE Texas after 15 years in H-town. Have some old spots and new spots to check out. Saw 2 teal and heard some gadwall sitting on the deer stand Monday.

I think it's gonna be good down here where we hunt. Teal season was outstanding, one of the best we've had. Scouted today and saw plenty of big duck. I'm excited and hope it's gonna be good like I think

Well the south Boys opened yesterday. Seems like the reports im seeing was an ok opener and today was really rough with no wind. The big duck clubs that have the water and food did well both days.

I scouted some more NTX yesterday and didn't see much. Have one more spot to check out Wednesday morning. Looks like we have a little cold front moving in Thursday so hopefully it brings some birds.

Anyone in NTX seeing many birds.
