Once in a while I’ll get a hankering for a pot of black eyed peas. I didn’t have all of the ingredients that I normally use and didn’t feel like going to the store, so just used what I had. Browned up some boneless smoked ham hocks. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/11/full-28445-320726-0506bff7_4130_48f1_af94_2db5c1dffc4a.jpeg) Then added some ground venison and seasoned her up. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/11/full-28445-320728-84418536_668f_4f66_a884_318ce98c6e06.jpeg) Fried up some tortillas in butter to dip in the juice, hmn hmn. Got my fix, now I’m stuffed. Thanks for lookin’.

I hate to say this but I don't like black eyed peas. If they were so good then they would be eaten all the time. Not just at new years. I don't eat them then.

I am in between your opinion and the love them crowd. Texas caviar is just about the only way I really enjoy them, and I don't need to hear the, "well you just never have had them cooked right."

Man, you just never have had them cooked right! Yeh, to me they are like liver. I don't want them all the time, but whenever I get a craving for them I will hurt myself on them. Great, now I'm craving liver. Maybe liver & black eyed peas next.

I prefer fresh or fresh frozen. I only eat the canned or dried varieties if that’s all I can get.

I've only had them fresh from the garden once that I can remember, from my Grandma's garden in Arkansas. I remember eating them, but was too little to remember now what they tasted like. I always use the dried peas.

I used to get a lot at a place outside Fredericksburg, but that farm shut down. When we go through Luling, they are usually available.

I guess I'm used to them big German kick boxer type women that you can wrestle with. Yall put each other in the choke hold and then make babies.

Can I come over for a bowl? Reminds me of meals my grandparents made. Also where are you finding boneless hocks?

Never out of buttermilk! Just make your own with a little white vinegar or lemon juice and milk, to counteract the alkalinity of the baking soda in your recipe.
