All the time. 15-85mA and 0-1000 Hz and two others we use daily in our line of work.

All the time, but there are much better options today. I'm in the A&C business.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

Building Automation Controls…all the time for I/O. Converts easily to 2-10vdc or 1-5vdc if the input can’t handle current.

You cannot beat if for simplicity. Full Digital wins for accuracy on custody xfer devices, but 4-20 does for simple valve control and process indicates still rules. 4-20 is pretty robust in noisy environments. It really takes fiber to beat it, then you drive cost and complexity up. Other side of the coin is that calibration takes longer for 4-20 than digital for pure digital devices.
Issue I am seeing is that new techs are not being trained in the need to calibrate the transmitter and receiver. I see issues all the time that result for trying to calibrate the entire loop by tweaking the transmitter.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

Yep, see it in HVAC modulating controls pretty often. 0-10v as well.

Almost all of our control loops are 4-20. We have Smart transmitters for custody and product metering.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

We have a lot of 4-20 with some newer stuff sprinkled in. We also have a couple of these bad boys in operation still. This one is used as a level control with a varied flow in and a variable valve (3-15) out. 100% pneumatic. These take a while to tune right.

The Foxboro 43AP is one of the most reliable controllers whether used as a primary or fail safe controller. 4-20........40 years of it!!

Been many years for me too. I used to have to rebuild and calibrate those devils. Got to keep that air supply clean!

I started out doing instrumentation right out of high school in 1974. 4-20, 3-15, 10-50, then DCS, then advanced control, advanced applications/IOT, Cyber been there done it.
Retired form Honeywell Process Solutions, Now work for another large industrial tech company doing refining, Petro chem controls on the Texas coast. Jan 28th I’m done, retired for good and hope to heck I never see another transmitter or control system the rest of my life.
The only controls I plan on working on is timer on a deer feeder!!!
Thanks, Billy

Even since then, it's amazing how much the technology has improved. It wasn't that long ago that everything was pretty much analog. Did some major upgrades in plants and refineries, entire Control Room upgrades. Out goes the big, old, heavy analog equipment and in with Honeywell & Yokogawa DCS systems. Congrats on the retirement, enjoy!
