I was gathering some stuff together last night and packing my day bag. Made myself chuckle when I was thinking about what the most important thing in there. What is the most important thing you put in your day pack when you hunt? The one thing you are absolutely not going to leave behind when you go out in the field?

For me... baby wipes. You only have to walk back to camp sockless one time and the lesson is learned for life.

I don't normally take a bag with me to the blind when hunting. Now for mule deer hunts I take a backpack with some things I need in it. Most times I am driving my Ranger when I go to a blind or to hunt mule deer, so just about anything I need for the trip is in it. After the bow or rifle it would be my bino's with a built in rangefinder are the one thing I take with me on every trip....some clowns should try to remember to do this.... bolt Flashlight is 3rd on the list.

I'm a "better to have and not need, than to need and not have" guy, and I always take a small pack with me to the stand. And yes, baby wipes are always in there. But my pack also contains my binos, rangefinder, knife, headlamp/flashlight, a drink/coffee, ear pro (if necessary), pen (for marking a deer tag), and zip strips (attaching tag to deer). I also throw my wallet, keys, and phone in there to keep from losing them in the pasture. To me, all of it is important and key to preventing most inconveniences during a hunt.

TP is one thing I never forget.

I typically have a lot of stuff in my bag that goes with me to the blind, but don't use it all while in the blind. It's like a one bag with all hunting stuff in it. It has my binos, range finder, a smallish sandbag for the rear of the stock, a water bottle, snacks, flashlight, plus my kill kit. The kill kit just lives in my bag year around, so it's easy to find. It has an outdoor edge knife and spare blades, rubber gloves, paracord, pen, and zip ties.
Depending on the stand, i may throw in the spotter, tripod and phone skope attachment.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I said water but I have spent many a night in the woods or on the river with nothing but a couple energy drinks and a couple tall boys. I don’t even own a real first aid kit, if I get hurt bad enough that I require medical attention a band aid isn’t going to help me. Improvise something to get through it.

Everything is subject to come or go in my hunting pack except TP, lighter and compass. They never leave.

No alcohol for me when hunting.

One thing no on has mentioned that I always have is surgical gloves. I never clean s deer or hog without them, in fact I double glove.

Some have mentioned ties, I always take band aids with me in case I get cut and to attach the tag to the critter.

Chap stick is always in mine plus stuff already mentioned. It’s good for the lips but also good for skeeter bites.

in my pack or on my person I will carry 2-3 knives, a folding saw ( which i use quite often ) a wind indicator ( old squirt bottle filled with talcum powder ) a few zip ties, some paracord, a pair of rubber gloves, inReach Mini, flashlight, rangefinder and depending on the hunt maybe some other items like a JetBoil and a few bottles of water/food and snacks.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Something I often started carrying are some nice garden pruning shears in a belt sheath. Most of the places I hunt have all kinds of briars, bushes, cactus, mesquite, etc. that get in the way of my path or shooting lane. Or constantly hanging up on my cloths. I pull them from the sheath to just snip through those areas, or to clear the area I'm hunting from. Nothing like a small tree limb sticking in your back while spring turkey hunting. They are more for still hunts, or hunts on the ground, portable stand, or public land kind of stuff. Less so for when I am hunting from a permanent blind, but they are still handy during tracking if something runs off. I find them much more handy than a folding saw and they are much quieter and quicker if your trying to slip through a creek bottom without scaring everything in earshot.
