When we leave the ranch we always turn off the power to the well. Three trips ago we went down and ants got on the contacts for the well I cleaned them out and got it going also checked both of the capacitors. It has a start and run capacitor. One of them checked fine the other was marginally below the spec. After cleaning the contactor the well would start and stop like it was suppose to. The next two times we have gone down the well wouldn't come on when we turned the breaker on. After checking the contacts which were clean it would cycle on and run fine then.

Does this sound like the one capacitor is bad or we have something else going on? Would just leaving the power on alleviate the issue?

Clean the contacts with sand paper or a finger nail file. If that doesn't work it's the start capacitor.

How long in between trips to the lease usually? I'd be tempted to just leave it on.

Clean all contacts really good....AFTER de-energizing of course.
If this doesn't help, I'd just replace all the electrical components. All can be found at Home Depot or Lowes and are relatively cheap. Especially when the eliminate your frustration and headaches!

I was concerned about this. I havent checked yet, but been told that the components, pressure switch capacitors etc. are all out of stock everywhere.

It’s not a good idea to use sandpaper to clean electrical contacts. You will leave behind tiny particles of abrasive embedded in the metal and create more points for arcing to start. Use a metal contact cleaner file or a metal fingernail file.

Likely contacts have corrosion on them, need to use fine grade sand paper Or a fin file.

If you can't find what you are looking for online or locally, post up a list of items with part numbers and pictures. I was in Lowe's in Longview this morning and they had lots of pressure switches by the well pump/sump pump area. I was pricing sump pumps at the time. I am sure with everyone on here we can locate the parts you need.
Got to keep your lease up and running.

For the ants they make a spray I think it's called JS565 . I'm probably wrong on the name of it but you spray the contacts while they are closed. It will leave a white coat like paint when dry. Works well for outside ac unit also. AC supply stores carry it and I think electrical supply houses . Just make sure contactor is closed.
