A buddy and I were lucky enough to fill our Mule Deer tags in Okanogan County Washington last week. I shot mine on the first day, and he got his the morning of our 5th and final full day. We both had dear heart for the first time and we were very pleasantly surprised. I can't believe I've left that in the woods all these years. We were happy to get that second heart for our final night camp dinner. Central Washington is amazingly beautiful country. For every 100 yards you can see, there's 200 yards of land you can't. Some incredible hunting land up there, and buck tags are over the counter. I can't wait to go back.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I know nothing about that country or the hunting. I think I could warm up to country like that.
Would those be considered Blacktail deer?

Actually in Washington you can hunt blacktail, whitetail and mule deer all with the same tag. I hunted in Central Washington which has Whitetail and Mule Deer. I believe I was told Blacktail tend to be more on the Western side of the state. The great thing is for general gun season, the tags were over the counter, just buy the tags and go hunt. I was very surprised as to how easy it was & kept thinking I was missing something. You can also get a bear or cougar tag over the counter for $225 if you wanted them. There were bear & mountain lion where we were hunting, but we never saw them in person. Lots of BLM land in this area, so a bunch of easily accessible hunting land. I'm really surprised the state's not talked about more
