Yes... you may not get as much yield but they will grow.

That's been my experience as well.

I've been told first soaking feed oats will improve the yield but have never tried it.

Yes 'feed' oats will germinate just like Bob/Seed Oats but not as reliably. You won't get the same percentage to come up but they will sprout.

I've been forced to do that in the past when repairing food plots later in the season and no Bob Oats available.

I think those are spring oats and could freeze out...if it gets cold enough. They will grow though.

I took y’all’s advice once and it didn’t work out; after buying $200.00 of oatmeal, 4 cases at Tom Thumb, none of it came up, and it was terrible cleaning the grain drill!

Our deer prefer the maple and brown sugar.

^^^ THIS
Oats will stay in the ground until it rains. The seeds don't quickly rot. My FIL was a rancher/farmer, he always referred to oats as a "Smart Seed" that just sat around in the ground waiting until it rained to start growing.

1.
2.

Put some in your feeder and the deer will have two reasons to visit.

freeze depends on moisture to some degree, if its dry, freezing is hard on plants, moisture is a big help on protecting against the freeze

Yes, hoping to get some to rain here too, been SO.....dry.

I am going to have to broadcast seed on top of some damaged areas of food plot (hogs tore up) and hope the seeds get wetted enough to germinate. Obviously, can't re-till everything.

Trouble with 'topping' damaged areas is that you might get enough rain to get the seeds to germinate (sprout a root) but if it turns off dry again, you'll lose most of it.

Hogs do this to me every year (plow up my food plots). Impossible to plant peas here...they don't have a chance. Hogs root them up right away. Electric fence will keep them out for awhile.
