Our insurance adjuster finally showed up to assess our Hurricane Ida damage. She was a friendly “bubbly” lady who seemed intent on getting every bit of our damage on the record. She even had her own ladder, climbed onto the roof and took a lot of pictures up there.

She returned to the ground obviously hot and sweaty, so I offered her a choice of a cold Coke, Root Beer, Ginger Ale or Dr. Pepper. She lit up and said, “I would love a Dr. Pepper.”

So we walked around to the back patio where I have an outdoor fridge full of beverages and some food stuff. She was standing next to me as I opened the door and took out two Dr. Peppers.

Suddenly, she turned cold and distant. She said, “I have to go now.” She left in what seemed to be a huff, and didn’t even take the soda.

So here’s what I’ve deduced. When I trim raw meat or chicken for a meal I save the scraps. When I’ve collected about a double handful of scraps I cook them and put them in a Ziploc bag to use as treats for our dog. I’d recently done that, and there - sitting on the shelf next to the Dr. Peppers - was a quart bag of cooked meat scraps labeled “DOG.”

Now I’m thinking our insurance adjuster is prone to jumping to conclusions.

If you can't laugh at yourself, give me a call. I'll gladly laugh at you.

Good thing you didn't cook a special meal, and label it "insurance adjuster"
