With open enrollment we are all being bombarded with insurance companies telling us to sign up for Medicare Advantage Plans. I have sold insurance for 42 years and highly suggest before you switch over to or buy an Advantage plan to make sure you know what you are getting. They sound great on TV - no premiums alot of the time, dental and vision coverage, etc. IMO they are great plans until you get sick. They have tons of copays and gaps.

My wife and I personally have and are on a traditional Medigap Plan G supplement and are very happy with it. Usually run around $100 bucks a month range per person. You will not find me or her on an Advantage plan.

Here is a short article about the pitfalls of Advantage plans - good luck to everyone and hope this is helpful

I was told by a financial planner to never go on the Advantage plan and from her explanation I have no plans of going that route. They make it sound great on the adds and it may be but only if you never have to use it for anything serious.

Shopping around now for better options but like the low max out of pocket plan I have now. Meet the max out of pocket with first order of diabetic supplies for the year.

Thank you for posting this. I always figure there has to be some sort of, “gotcha” buried in the fine print on those slick tv ads that plaster certain channels that target an older demographic audience.

It matters what insurances you choose, but the headaches of payments will always be there, The billing departments of hospital, and all of the independent providers will screw it up and you will be billed over and over because the billing departments will fail to file or some other dumb "stuff".

Fighting this right now, somehow they didn't notice my supplement. Therefore they didn't file on it and just billed me instead.
As to the OP, my daughter used to work (till last month) in insurance approval for the Oncology department at a local hospital. When it came time for me to go on Medicare, she told me all about the pitfalls of the Plan C "Advantage" they are pushing so hard. She was adamant that I not get anything but traditional Medicare and a supplement.

My buddy spent 10 days in the icu before he passed with every doctor in the hospital in and out of there. He had G coverage and I think I may have paid a total of $170 all in.

My medicare supplemental policy has been very good. Any office visits, blood test, or prescriptions have been paid at 100% and I get $50 a month worth of over the counter meds paid for as well.
