Time for this weeks installment of "how old and score guess" thread. This one has a twist though....age is simple....score will need to be broken down with a down frame(MB, mass and spread) and tine length total(typical + nontypical) AND this buck is in velvet. So, your guess must be for hard antler score. grin
He has 18 scoreable points also...your one and only hint... clap

Pics are hard to age him by. Last pic looks 6 to me but I think he is only 5 and just fatter than mud

17-18 IS
52-53 MBs
39-40 Mass
108-111 Down

60-62 Typical
25-27 NT
85-89 Up

193-200 so I'm going with 196 4/8

grin

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Dang, velvet to hard and we have to give down and up. Making it harder, "someone" must have gotten too close on the two prior estimates.
Do we know how far along he is in growing? I couldnt get to 18.

Those pictures were taken on 9-9-2021. So he shed velvet within the next 2 weeks at most. Close on a total score guess is one thing...I have gotten on the money with a guess but was off on both the down and up frames when it was all said and done. This way it makes you get both correct, not just a total.

Wow. Would never of guessed the pics were same day. The profile of the NT's on left side look(and are) much longer than in the other pics. Just cannot get the depth or 3D look in many pics(which I should know that.) I guess thats a significant NT coming inside off the RG2/3 and who knows what that is coming off the back of RG1. Im working on it.

44 mass (third Mass measurements are massive- first glance he looks upper 40’s mass but is in velvet)
19 spread
52 beams
115 down.

Now I may be seeing a second NT coming off inside of right beam. Oh well. Im between DQ and ILUV so I feel pretty good(in good company.) And the age being simple I dont agree with. Ill say 6 but not confident.
Down-112
Up-93
Total-205
Velvet is completely unfair.
Thanks for doing this(even though you made it too hard.)

Bobo, I feel same thing on mass but I just couldnt give him that much. Im not used to subtracting for velvet. We have almost same down cause I gave him more beam. When I used his head and ears to help estimate beam I kept getting way more than what my overall impression was. Next time, STx will make us give every measurement.

Uh...you are still needing tine length or up frame there clown even if you are right or wrong on the down frame.

I was going to make you give tine length, NT tine length, mass, beams and inside spread but decided to go with MB-mass-spread and tine lengths totals only for a total score. Like I posted above I have gotten very close on some deer scores only to find out I was off high or low on many of the measurements but in the end it scored what I guessed...just did not get there correctly. This way we know if we are over or under on the scores. I think it helps in future scoring threads like this for everyone.

Agree, muchly on it helping to learn how to score. Some just go by a gut impression of size and do pretty good. I love it though, so keep it up.

It does not do much good if they won't read the OP though...still people guessing a total score. I am guilty of saying a buck looks to be 180 or 190 or 230s or ??? But that is just a guess from seeing and scoring bucks/sheds in the past. I have missed bucks very low when just guessing like that when field judging live deer. And I have looked and ages 10's of thousands of them over the 30+ yrs.

Ranch, I go off decades of reference and seeing thousands of South Texas live and harvested bucks. Unless I drop it, I'm not putting tape to it. I stick by 6yo and 210".
