Muzzleloader deer and feral hogs. Well it looks like kind of a tough hunt for an old guy. Anywhere near there to camp? What can I expect to see, seems like what information I have found on this site there are a bunch of feral hogs on this unit.

Congrats on the draw. I always stayed in a motel. There used to be a motel in Moss Hill just a few miles east of the page unit. The hunting was very good on the page unit but it’s a pretty good walk to get to the south east side of the unit where I hunted.

I'm going to focus on hogs, may take my boat if there is a place to launch near there. Is it as thick as it looks on Google earth?

Yes it is very thick. The good news is there are hogs everywhere.

We were drawn for the same hunt on an adjacent property. I'm not finding any place to camp close by yet, but still looking.

Last year I hunted the Brierwood unit which is directly to the west of the page unit. The area was very easy to hunt with very few bushes and nothing but trees and grass. Which means you can really see a long way without obstructions. Long shots are possible and the area is definitely loaded with hogs. I will be across from you at the Boars den for my muzzleloader hunt also. I would wish you a lot of luck but I dont think you will need it. I killed mutliple hogs on each hunt last year and it was just downright easy.

I will be on the page unit (11/6 for the rifle hunt and the brierwood hunt (11/20) also. There may be nothing but hog carcasses everywhere after I get done hunting it. I will try to leave a few live ones for you.

I dont think bigfoot was on the species list to shoot but if I see him he is going down also. Lots of reports from that exact location by the way. Im going to leave him plenty of hog meat.

Good deal, so I should work up a load capable of shooting farther than 150 yards? Sounds like it is going to be a good time.

I also hunted Brierwood two years ago. Tons of hogs and hog damage -- the place looked like it had been carpet-bombed -- and some big deer in there too -- I passed on a buck that had just dropped his horns to give him a chance to grow another set. I drew Page that year too but it was closed for a season due to the washed out access road. This year I drew Brierwood again and Hirsch Unit -- looking forward to both.

Which hunt where you on that you saw one drop it’s antlers? Muzzleloader? I’ve talked to about six people and your the first I’ve heard that saw a deer. I jumped one in Brierwood that year but could only see it running off.

Yes I think a 150 yard shot is possible at least it was at brierwood with the right contours of the land. If you just want to get out and shoot something then you will have a good time. I had a lot of fun last year and I really didnt hunt that hard. Just found a few wallows about 150 yard off the main trail and sat there and waited for them to come. And they did from every direction. Mostly loner boars but we had one big sounder come in on us but they were spooky and we didnt get a shot. The ones at Brierwood were definitely not nocturnal. I saw them at all times of day.

Good luck

Well then I am ready firearms wise. Where I normally hunt hogs they are almost entirely nocturnal, glad to hear this is not a problem. Do they hit wallows late winter when it is cool out?
