Any body start calling early like now for Deer? Im going out this week and try and bag nice one. MLD Ranch but never called this time of year.

I have....with my road feeder. Works like a charm too. Gets the does in and the bucks in early season. During the rut it works about the same.

Your first step is to find out at what stage of the rut the deer are approaching in the area where you hunt. You'll want to use the calls that work best at the current stage. For example, once the chase phase kicks it, rattles and grunts work best. During the earlier Seeking Stage, grunts and doe bleats might work best.

Whatever call you use, picking the right setup is critical IMO as mature deer will often scent check the source of a call from the safety of cover. For that reason, pick a setup where cover is more limited on your downwind side so a older buck will be more exposed if he tries to scent check you. Of course, if it's during the peak of the Chase Stage, all bets are off on what a sex-crazed buck might do.

Doe in heat call will work if the rut is close enough.
