Was notified today that I was drawn for the Richland Creek draw hunt for November 13th and 14th. Was looking to see if anyone knew how the hunt worked? Are you assigned a pool at random or do you pick in a certain order? Need to know if I need to take the day off of work to scout to select an area or just show up at 2:30 Friday get my assigned area and then go look at it to figure out a game plan.

Just show up at the time they tell you to be there on Friday. The biologist will give a rundown of the pools and then you will draw a number for which order you get to pick your pool. After that is done you are allowed to go 'scout', but you aren't supposed to scout before then. Whichever pool you pick is yours for the weekend.

The gate is locked so you can't scout till after the orientation. At the orientation you will pick a cell to hunt, typically they go in order per the selection you were drawn by the computer. They won't tell you anything about the individual cells other than they all have birds. After the orientation they will take you out to the wma and you can scout.

The hunting is normally really good Saturday and alot slower on Sunday.

Other than that lmk if you have any questions

Pretty sure you can't really scout this until the day before your hunt. The TPWD guys are great and will give you some places where they see the birds on most days. Bring your binos and pick your own spot after listening to them. Getting hidden is the key. The units have usually been cut right at the water's surface, some will have some reeds or taller brush but you need some kind of cover/blind near where you see birds. As mentioned, Saturday is usually really good then Sunday fewer birds.
