I'm considering setting up a hog light on one of my feeders and am considering this one.
https://elusivewildlife.com/shop/hu...light-motion-activated-feeder-light.html

I have one of Elusive WIldlife's gun lights and I've been happy with it.
My goal is to night hunt hogs with an red dot or illuminated reticle scope.
I want something that is solar charged and will be reliable. I don't mind spending more for quality.
I don't want to go the night vision route.
Any recommendations?

Hi Mike-
I've never tried the motion-activated lights and standard scope setup, but I did try the ND Laser and didn't have much success. I know in the past I have read some threads on here where guys have good luck with the motion activated lights after leaving them out long enough for the hogs to get used to. With the lights you're probably "one and done" since they probably will run off out of the light with the first shot, whereas with NV or thermal you can usually get at least one follow-up.
I think you would be happy with the NV route. I don't think- for the money- you can beat a Sightmark Wraith for a foray into NV hunting. While my thermal was in the shop I used mine quite a bit and had good success. With an add-on IR source I can see clearly at 200 yards with it.

I just bought the ones from northern tool, motion lights, 2 sta. Mounted them on some 8 ft 1 1/2 conduit. There are better ones know. Worked good for my situation.
Also had a driveway monitor set up with a remote in the blind.

Thank you for the feedback.
TX_LT230FH , I've been putting it off I may go with a Wraith.
They're pretty cheap for what you get.

Dalee- can you tell me about your driveway monitor? I have been considering them for the past year.
I was thinking about putting 1 or 2 at our feeders then have the base unit in the cabin and when we are there at night
it would let us know when we have wildlife (mostly hogs per our cameras) at the feeder then we can sneak out and
see if we can get some hogs. thanks

B_Man I have a setup with the Chamberlain driveway monitor shown below. I added an additional sensor and it paired up easily. I have had pretty good luck with them- they have pretty high sensitivity. The problem I have had is keeping up with the batteries in the sending units. You have to unmount the units and use a small screwdriver to open the cover. Which seems like not that big a deal but I have to wire them to the tree since the idiot cows and, apparently, every other living creature likes to mess with them. They do work and I need to get mine ready for this winter hog season......... [Linked Image]

Htzsafe Solar Driveway Alarm System-1/2 Mile Long Transmission Range-Solar Powered No Need Replace Batteries-Outdoor Weatherproof Motion Sensor&Detect
HTZSAFE

I too used the Chamberlains above for a while and changed to the Htzsafe Solar Driveway Alarm System on amazon over a year ago to get rid of the battery aggravation factor. Additional sensors available as well.

I have a less expensive version. I use the Harbor Freight driveway alarm system. As a secondary use, I used to have one with the sender hidden in a tissue box on the sun visor of my truck. With the receiver on night stand, I was alerted to my truck getting broken into. Worked great.

I just use Mister Beams. The ones that take 4 D-cells last a long time. Problem is the squirrels love the plastic so I had to put them in little cages. (the lights, not the squirrels)

I got a slow glow light that has been stellar. It's more expensive, but completely self contained with everything you need. Sits on a t-post and the solar panel is quality. The light slowly dims on to not scare animals.

The LO at my lease was putting instant on motion activated white lights on the feeders, lots of hogs killed. For hogs, I don’t think light color at the feeder matters. Instant on, slow on, all appear to be the same. They’ll get used to anything. There’s a guy posting in the hog forum now calling in pigs to big ‘ol spotlights on a SxS.
