 muzzle brake question ?

Ok, don't beat me up for this question. But can anyone recommend a clamp on style muzzle brake for a Savage Axis 243 ? My local gunsmith measured the diameter of my barrel and said it was to small for him to drill. So I thought I would try to get a clamp on and do it myself, just don't know which to try. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

No, don't really need one, just I'm 50 years old and suffer from a torn rotator cuff from a fight I was in, work related (I work Law Enforcement) and the older I get the more it bothers me.

No, don't really need one, just I'm 50 years old and suffer from a torn rotator cuff from a fight I was in, work related (I work Law Enforcement) and the older I get the more it bothers me. May have more luck and be a little less expensive to have a really good recoil pad put on it to absorb it better??
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Get a tripod. The weight of tripod will reduce recoil significantly. Heavier the better Bogpod death grip(leo program through guide fitter and govx) Reaper rest(pretty sure they have a LEO discount, since owner is a LEO) Hog saddle Or just arca plate/tripod/head combo

A clamp-on brake will induce stresses on your barrel, affecting its harmonics, point of impact and accuracy. Plus, it may not stay on. Your barrel's muzzle can be threaded for a screw-on brake. The least expensive option is to get a slip-on recoil pad like the Allen Recoil Eraser or have a Pachmayr Decelerator or Limbsaver pad installed. Thew stock may need to be shortened to allow proper length of pull.

I think you need to start over.
What I mean is knowing your shoulder injury will not improve invest in a better quality gun with all the latest recoil reducing devices.
Good barrel
Good trigger
Good stock
Good recoil pad
Good break
All these thing matter.
Example:
I have a .338 Edge sending a 300 grain SMK bullet with 90 grains of H1000 powder pushing it and I'll let a 10 year girl shot it.
Recoil is manageable.
Christmas is just around the corner, this may be your time.
