Has anyone yet? Which hunts are they drawing today?

Looks like they’ll draw epostcard deer/waterfowl, national refuge youth deer.

?? Has anybody been on Garner SP this year? I got a Stand By pass ... umm I think was 10 years ago and had a shall we say "less than the usual satisfying usually very professional TPW experience on that Hunt" with the Hunt Staff and promised myself I'd never go back "except to swim in the river, drink beer on the patio and dance with my wife of 53 years to whatever was on the jukebox".

For those who've never been there Garner SP is a beautiful place , built in the mid 1930's and the only place in the TPW Park System I've ever had any kind of a bad experience of any magnitude with Staff.

IMO the Park is managed almost exclusively for out of state campers, and anyone else can like it or leave. There were almost 50 cars in line honking their horns to open the gates, and staff advised us to not let the incoming campers see that we even might have been hunting when we drove out. IE: no camo no guns no this and no that visible & most of all no carcasses visible.

My initial assigned blind was inside a large paved parking lot, with grade school styled several children's seesaws, swing sets, park benches and picnic tables, RV water & sewer hookups 3'-4' high and a very large brick shower & latrine for Men & Women blocking the view of the adjacent tree line and every couple hours of multiple check up's by my delivery truck driver asking if I wanted to go to lunch or take a break?. When I later asked the Hunt Master if I could shoot a critter that was border line to coming out of the brush line behind the latrine I got no answer, but is when I got a 3rd Degree interrogation about how did I know there was even a critter back there unless I was outside of the tiny cramped blind ...and THAT's not allowed. I changed blinds the 3nd and last day and again got read the Riot Act about The Rules about moving the carcass from where it had dropped, of anything killed ...bright sunshine & high 60's temps or not that was warming the carcass and why the HM had kicked the previous Hunter off the Hunt.

FWIW ....as an explanation of why am I writing this ...after my father & his wing mate were killed in an air to air collision leading a squadron of P-51's in those pre on board radar days... thru a violent thunderstorm over Giddings' headed to the Matagorda Bombing Range for Summer Drill in August 1948. After that I usually got shipped out to his relatives every summer, and my uncle & family in Midland usually made an annual trip to Garner. At my current age of little under 80, having lived long past my life span expectations ..IE ...the classic "If I'd known I'd live this long yadda yadda is a very true statement in my case." ....I still have very fond memories of Garner from those years in the very late 40's and early 50's and those several years of summer trips to Garner from my uncles house in Midland.

I'd really like to go at least one more time to Hunt. Last time I drove out there from Lake Texoma, before we moved down here to Dogwood Country, just for a chance at a Standby ticket and got lucky....but I'm very hesitant based the experiences of my trip 10 years ago.

So again...If anyone has been to Garner for a scheduled Hunt recently please either post or PM me of your opinions of your recent experiences at Garner SP and the EXO Hunt experience.

Started the day today with 3 App's left for a possible successful drawing out of 15 locations applied for .... then Kerr WMA went to a 2nd drawing status this afternoon...leaving 2 "Application Received" s and 13 other App's as Not Drawn... I'd call it a success if either one of the 2 remaining App's came up as a winner...gonna have to think real hard about eating my words and trying to win a trip to Garner as a Standby as in the past they have had leftover StandBy slot's 'cause other people in the past have told similar stories like I experienced. They had a dozen or more when I called and made the trip last time 10 years ago. Time to work the phone again looking for last minute Stand By's .... Oh well beggars can't be too choosey. Where do you find the draw dates?

I go to the page that shows the status of all your entries, scroll down to look at the categories and application deadline dates.. the drawings are typically the 1st business day after the deadline.

Just checked my account and it is the same as it was last week. I have 12 Not Selected's, 2 App Received's, 1 E Postcard that I got a EMail notice with a Permit # on it but still shows on line as Pending in my Account List, and the one Cancelled Location I called and With Drew on. I'm guessing it'll be the 15th with what I have still pending & App's Received before it gets settled. Good Luck Ya'll

Waiting on the 15th or 1st of the month for a next to last shot at drawing something of the last 3 open Hunts I'm in is BORING.

13 other Not Selected's not helping my attitude either. Drew a E Hunt for Hog's at Keechi that was a last minute entry so am not totally skunked ...not bad for a No Charge freeby Hunt less than an hour from home. Gonna hammer that List 1st next year. I also saved my 21LP's for next year at South Llano River by withdrawing the Application, 'cause I got cold feet over the construction going on.

OBTW all ya'll who don't take the Dallas Morning News ..Say goodby to Fairfield SP...it is and has been privately owned and has been Leased to TPW all these years and is for sale and probably the Land Boom will be the result before next season.

Welllllll so much for 2021's TPW's Hunting App's ...
As expected I got a Not Selected at Kerr WMA and have 1 lone App left out there at LOLOL never gonna happen but is a dream hunt for sure for one of Mason Mtn's 2 spots.

I've been stewing all morning about eating my words and Man Up by applying for Garner ...not just NO ....but H & double Hockey Stiks NO on ever setting foot at Garner again , even after cancelling Llano River SP's EXO Hunt to protect my 21 LP's last week. So I ponied up another $3 App fee for another chance at SLRv'er ....and PTL the new App went thru....Mebbe sumbody is watching over my foolishness yet....Please just don't call me Home quite yet...

Better than just a turd...

Just checked and still got the last of the 3 "App received's " as I had couple weeks ago... Oh well Lightning will have to strike before I ever get drawn for anything again it looks like. Funny/Strange IMO though that I received the Permit Sheet Email for a E Hog Hunt at Keechi 2 weeks ago and the Big List also still shows Keechi Hog as a App Received....hmmm good thing Keechi is about 45 minutes from my house...
