I’ve tried and owned a lot of different factory rifles. Never had a high end custom action.

My favorites are:

Ruger 77 M2/Hawkeye- Old school Mauser replica. Built like a tank. Mauser control feed, 3 position safety. Grew up on this one so it’s sentimental.

Kimber 84m- No waste, scaled absolutely perfect for 308 based cartridges. Same controls as the as the Ruger but super light weight. It’s like a customer tailored suit for 308/creedmoor based cartridges.

Tikka- Absolute buttery action. Best push feed I’ve ever tried. Flawless.

I have a Remington 700 tactical in .308 with a 20” heavy barrel. I love everything about it

I’ll go ahead and represent the newbs - I like my Ruger American Ranch in 308 converted with the AI mag fix.

I dig this more than the Savage and Howa bolt actions I tried previously.

X-Bolt, super smooth with detachable mag and metal trigger guard. Safety is the best style IMO also

I love the old Winchester/Ruger mauser style but don't care for the safety or floor plate. Tikka feels cheap

I enjoy my Remington 700 action, but my favorite is my Kimber 84M.

I have a little bit of everything too

The favorites at the moment are
Tikka 7-08, smooth bolt, just seems to like everything I shoot through it

Savage “frankenbuild” 6.5x55 Shilen barrel with a Boyds TH stock.

FN Mauser .257 Roberts, not particularly accurate (pretty good) stock is too short even with the ugly handmade stock spacer. It was my grandmother’s rifle and that is all that matters!

I have owned a few Ruger rifles but mainly Remington's now. I own several Remington 700 actions, but my favorite is the .280 Remington 700 action I had built by Rifles Inc. It shoots way better than I will ever shoot it and it is my mule deer rifle of choice now. My factory Remington 700 SPS .270 is really smooth also but I had a friend do some work on it and that really improved it. It is what I have killed a ton of whitetails with over the past 18 or 19 yrs now. One of my favorites I sold was not a bolt action but it was a Ruger #1 in .270, wished I had it back.

My favorite is the M77 but I’ve had a few that shot terrible and a few that shot lights out

They’re a roll of the dice

I had a 6mm, (wanted for years) that wouldn’t give up but a 2” group no matter the bullet, rest, wind or shooter

But I had a 22-250 w a wide view Redfield that would still cut a hole at 300

Doesn’t matter, it was my first favorite and will always be I love them

I’ll pay too much one day for a 220 Swift that’s clean if I stumble upon it

Rugers M77 wood stocks and blued are unmatched to me, damn near perfect in my eyes

My Best Buy is an X Bolt, it’s probably where I’ll spend most $$$ in the future

While it's not so much my favorite, I've come to appreciate the controlled-feed action found in my Winchester Model 70. There's just something about the feel and sound of the bolt as the cartridge is snapped into place as it enters the chamber. Of course, it also seems to have a unique feel as the empty casing is pulled back and released from the oversized claw extractor in a more controlled fashion.

In terms of smoothness, the bolt in my 80's vintage Remington Model 700 feels as if it's sliding on glass.

Bat Tactical is my favorite. I can’t complain about the Mark V’s I have either.

In my book, hard to beat the 1950's FN Supremes.

I was always partial to a Ruger controlled feed action myself.

Glad to see there are folks who favor the Ruger M77. It’s my favorite, mostly out of nostalgia. I recently had my 1980s tang safety .270 rebarrled to a 338 Sherman. I also stripped the poly off the stock, sanded down and restained and did a hand rubbed boiled linseed finish.

My other favorites (and all my other rifles) are all tikkas

My first choice would have to be the older Remington 700 ADL’s and BDL’s, second choice would be the Ruger 77 (old tang safety and Hawkeye)
