Have a GE built in, above my oven with a trim kit.

Yesterday, I warmed some spinach artichoke dip and went to sit down. I heard the microwave start humming.
I walk over and it’s humming. So, I open the door and it stops. Close door and it hums again. It works if I enter some time. Just don’t stop humming.

Ordinarily, I would just buy a new one. It’s pretty old anyway.
But it’s built in and has a frame.

I’m just kinda stuck around this trim kit and want to find another one the same size. But no luck

GE Model JE1640 GB

Thoughts.

Had a GE that did the same thing. It died about 3 months ago and I ended up making a decent looking frame out of MDF and spray painting it black to match the rest of the kitchen. Looked pretty good to myself and my parents. It was either do that or just make a finished hole for the microwave to set in, like drywall and paint, but the kitchen is gonna be remodeled relatively soon so that was out the picture because it'd be too much work for nothing.

I am on my third on in around 20 years. I have them replaced by Hime Depot. I bought the warranty on the one I now have. No more problems. They seem to be improving. I would never build one in on a new house.

Ours died last year. I took measurements and a local hardware store had a replacement of the same dimensions.

It’s gonna have different dimensions, yes. Something custom may be needed, yes.

Mine was build in by the trim carpenter when we wren we building. I would go with a table top if I built again. There are times when I might like to use it in different locations. I bought a couple of GE table tops while waiting on the new ones. They both ended in hunting camps. I make a breakfast taco in mine every morning.

Your microwave specs, Dimensions: 13 5/16 H x 23 21/32 W x 18 5/16 D • 1.6 cu ft Oven Capacity and • 1100 Watts.I'm sure you can find another one the same size but a different model number.
JEM25DMBB 11 3/16 H x 23 25/32 W x 12 9/32 is the closest replacement but it isn't as deep as your old one and they don't make them deep anymore.

Roll, i went thru the microwave buying today. Had a generic with trim oackage for the built in look that was the same size as whirlpool and kitchen aid 2.2 cu ft microwaves. Unfortunately those are not in stock anywhere close nor to order. So, i picked up an LG 2.2 cu ft today at best buy and it fits “close enough” for me to he happy. The problem with a new trim kit is LG makes a 30” only and my cabinet is designed for a 27”.

To answer your question, i have heard there is some compatibility with the GE models of old and the current Lg models. With your dimensions, you may very well find the LG 2.2 cu ft fits your trim kit near perfect.
