Our last gun shop shut down around 10 years ago and one of the locals opened a new one, went by today. Felt good walking into a gun shop again, only problem was no coffee and no where to sit but I think they'll figure it out. Fair selection of ammo, rifles, pistols and accessories. Picked up a couple of boxes of 257 Weatherby's, 200 rd box 55 gr sp 223's and 300 rounds CCI stingers. Grabbed a holster for my Hi-Powers and my first polymer locking holster for my 365.

Big Spring Sporting Goods, it's on south loop 700, just in case anybody traveling through the area needs something. Corner of 700 and Birdwell lane.

Did Dibrell's go out of business?

Travis shut it down years ago. DR. Farquhar opened it up afterwards but it didn't last long.

No...I worked at the TDCJ Wilderness Camp out by the Air Park from '99 to '00 and my Dad lived there for several years and worked in Stanton until he retired.

My screen name comes from a TDCJ Inmate who used to yell "Leon Carr!!!!!!" at the top of his lungs all night lol. I never found out who Leon Carr was, I think it was one of his relatives.

Were they the one's who were working around town on different projects? We used a crew of inmates on our warehouse just nth of the tracks across from the company that made all the Coke bottles. Tore out a bunch of internal buildings and used that material on a project at the Park for the Kid's Zone. It used to be the old paint shop when Webb AFB was still active. That's when we started our company HWYCOM.

Not sure I know who Shaun is but he's put in a nice place. Since I don't live in town anymore and don't go unless it's to the office, I'm out of the loop.

I lived onsite in some of the old AF barracks four days a week and lived in Sweetwater four days a week. We had the FCI to the North, Cornell Corrections to the East (The inmates there had a BAND that would play music on the rec yard(!), and when they called count time it was in like 4 different languages), an old AF hangar to the South, and the Flight Line to the West.

I really enjoyed my time living/working in Big Spring. When I needed something to read I went to Pancho's Newsstand downtown where they had every kind of magazine and newspaper you can think of. I hear it closed down several years ago. I could move back there tomorrow (Big Spring PD is always hiring), but I don't think my wife would go with me lol.

Finding and checking out small, privately owned gun and sporting goods stores is one of the things I enjoy best when traveling with the wife. My last rifle, a Winchester Model 94 came from such a place.

I'll definitely check it out the next time we're in the area.
