This is one I called Ike, last time I saw him was 3 1/2 years ago. He showed up yesterday and he's bigger and wider than before, he turned into a beast! Now the quest is to get a few pic's of him.




I'll let the boys with Aoudad experience tell us how big he is but now he looks 35 to 36 inches to me and wider than any I've ever seen. Last I seen of him was when he and Ringo were fighting on the side of the hill and Ringo run him off.

After 3.5 years, what are the odds it's a different ram that just has similar features?

Could be but I suspect it's the same ram, he's mature enough to take on the big rams now.

He’s a young ram. And he’s probably only 25-26” at best.

Google a 35” ram. They are massive.

An aoudad takes 8-10 years to approach shooter size.

Exactly right. If it's the same ram he's been eating his Wheaties. There's some 30 + inch rams out here but the one I saw is much bigger.

Those pic's are old pic's, I'm guessing he was around 5 years old then and i agree he was around 25 to 26 inches then.

Found him! He's about 100 yards below that saddle.

After getting a better look at him, I believe I'm way off on the 35 mark but he put on a lot of weight, mass and length.

If you find his remains it would be interesting to see how big he is at the time of his natural death.

I haven't seen enough Aoudad to be jumping out there and guessing scores, hoping some of the experienced Aoudad outfitters will jump in. I tried to get as many angles as I could, I've got more pic's.

Maybe one of these days if the population gets to be a nuisance but right now they pose no problem, they rarely come off the mountains. Nobody hunts the ranch and that's the way they like it, it's got the most natural of critters to be found in West Texas. Only thing that get's shot here is Feral Hog's and Coyotes. To be honest I like it that way, with me covering 70 to 100 miles a day just on the ranch I get to see some nice Deer, Aoudad and all the other critters that live out here. I hunt them with my camera's.

Found a lot of dead critters out here but I've yet to find a dead Aoudad.

To be honest I'd like to find one. Early man has left a few of their flint knapping kit's to be found several thousands of years later. Two that I've seen they were using horn and bone that came from sheep (Big Horns or what ever was there when they were around) They used bone and horn as both pressure and percussion tools and I'd like to make some replica's of those tools. Sheep bone is the densest of all four legged animals making it the strongest and most durable. It doesn't have to be a ram since most will be cut up to make the tools. Maybe I'll get lucky and my processor can score me some horn and a leg bone or two.

Aoudad horn isnt very durable, most ive seen are sort of soft and brittle. It’s not like a bighorn horn.

Their bones are damn tough though.
