Decided to build a deck on the back our our house, needed some outside space out of the sand and stickers. Its 38'x16', minus the little jog going around the corner of the garage. Due to termites being prolific in our area its is set on pipe cemented in the ground and joists bolted to an piece of angle iron welded on top. All pressure treated lumber, 2x8 joists and 2x6 decking. Was a fun project and with some much appreciated help from some family we got it done pretty quick and good thing, will have my boys birthday party at the house this coming weekend and get to enjoy it. Still need to pop a line on the end of the boards and cut them all to exact length but last night at 9pm I decided that could wait till daylight.

Leaving Lowes wondering if I bit off more than the trailer could chew

That’s a great looking deck and it compliments the back of the house nicely. Great job up

LoL, just like with sausage making, there were plenty of "deck" jokes and one liners thrown around.

Good work!

What are you going to stain or paint it with?

You’ll be building a pergola over it soon.

Not sure on stain. Everything I read said it needs to dry out for about 4 weeks before staining it’s been raining on it a lot so not much drying lol

No roof or pergola. Unlike my last house this one come early afternoon is shaded by the house, deck is on the north east side.

looks great!

our deck is 7-8 years old and there are a number of boards that need to be replaced. We have stained just about every year to every other year ... instead of replacing a few boards, I might bite the bullet and go with composite but that's gonna be pricy!!! 12' x 48' with boards running lengthwise.

I would let it weather until next spring. Be prepared to replace a few twisted or badly checked boards, it’s normal on a treated pine deck. The “treatment” process that makes it rot resistant also makes it resistant to taking a stain, and it’s typically pretty wet when coming off the lumber rack. Best time to stein is just before it turns grey, run a orbital sander over the top with 100 grit and spray it on and back mop it in with a deck pad. Can be done with a pump up sprayer no problems.

I would stay away from thompsons water seal and behr stains ( behr makes a great solid color stain, looks like paint). A good trans or semi trans can be found in CWF Flood, Olympic, Sikkens or Cabot.

Any questions let me know before I got into real estate I owned a paint and stain company and stained hundred and hundreds of decks.

I’m waiting for my fence to weather so I can stain it to match my other fence. I’ve used the Gray Away stain it works great. It’s an oiled based stain and it penetrates well and stains really well too.

Ready seal is a good product. It’s a two coat system so you have to apply two thin coats instead of 1 like some other products.

But ready seal is quality stain
