Passed a truck south bound truck Thursday around Lamesa that had a rack sticking out of it bed. Was wondering if it was anyone on here? If so what are the details of your success?

I remember driving home from Colorado in 96 with mine and my cousins elk. Two nice 6x5`s on top of our gear in the back of the truck. Got lots of thumbs up and horns honked at us and lots of lookers at gas stations while filling up. Pretty cool feeling. Still make me smile.

I honked and gave a big thumbs up as I passed. Got a big smile in return.

When I was hunting lions in Colorado we had two lions in the back on top of the dog box along with a mulie. Should have seen the looks on peoples faces when we stopped for lunch. People stopping to take pictures and gawk at the truck.

One February, I came back from down south hooked up with a trailer loaded with 8 nilgai cows. They were all on their backs with the feetsies up in the air. I encountered some thumbs ups and a few middles fingers on the journey.

Two years ago I was heading home from Marathon with my skinned Elk head / antlers on top my coolers and gear and I got the finger nearly as many times as I got a thumbs up , lol .

Someone had one going through Lewisville in the pay lane in the middle this morning. Looked like a heck of a bull!

Describe the truck? I have a buddy whose wife got a big one in Colorado last week. They live down by Marble Falls.

It was a white Ford 4x4. I think I remember it having a black tool box. They were driving 70ish and I blew by them so fast I don't remember much except it looked like a young buck with thin beams.

I brought this one home on Thursday, but dropped it in Lubbock. I’ve got a black Ford 4x4 with black tool box. [Linked Image]

That is a nice one. The one I saw was not as thick at that nor a big. Got a story to tell?

I’ve been hunting with the same guys for 11 years now, and have been very fortunate to take some really nice bulls. They get a very limited amount of tags where we can hunt them in the rut with rifles. We looked at 5-10 bulls every day, but they mostly stayed in the timber. My watch said I walked 10 miles and climbed 70 stories the first day. The second day, in the afternoon, we got up to a high park early and heard bulls in every direction. We made the decision to go after one that had a really deep bugle. We were 150 yards from the truck in the middle of a park when a 5x5 bugled 100 yards behind the truck and had us busted. For whatever reason, he didn’t blow out and we were able to crawl to an aspen tree. A few cow calls brought the small bull to 30 yards. While staring him in the eye, the bigger bull couldn’t stand it, and came over the hill for a look. He turned broadside and I was able to put a good shot on him with the .300 mag. He turned and was walking away, so he got another one. We found him 20 yards away, just over the rise. The guides estimated him at 9 years old. Another hunter was able to take a good bull the same night, and 2 went down the next morning. All told, 5 bulls in 2.5 days. The guides got a few days off. Freezer is full of good meat!

My rule with elk is that there’s no shame in follow up shots. Shoot them until they stop moving!
