Be honest, who else has one and uses it on the cheap knives?

Well, yes and no. It removes a ton of metal.

Not that exact one, but yes I have one for the cheap knives. And you are very correct that it will shorten the life of a blade, but it will put a rough but sharp edge on one quickly.

Wicked Edge

Great investment, that will last a lifetime and make scary sharp blades.

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

Watched our guide last week field dress and skin two bull Nilgai with a cheap hardware store fixed blade knife that he sharpened with one of these. Kinda made me question my whole knife/sharpener views. He has cleaned well over 1,000 Nilgai (among other animals) and said it was the best system he’s found.
