Nice rifle! NIce deer!

How would you compare the recoil to another cartridge? Say.... compare to a 6.5 Grendel and a 300 BLK.

Thank you. Love the rifle!

The recoil is just tad heavier than 300 BLK. at supersonic speeds. I have not tried the Grendel. But in all truth, the recoil is nothing to worry about.

Thank you Sir! It is about the same as in an AR compared to the BLK.

Sweet! I am excited! About to order one. Any plans on offering 18" or even 20" long?

Mr. Wilson - Something else you should consider is offering conversion barrels for both the CZ 527 (Varmint contour) and also Howa Mini-1500 (heavy contour). Ignoring the manufacturer's barrel designation, both barrels are basically a medium/medium-heavy sporter profile that use metric threads.

These two rifles plus the Ruger American Ranch are the 3 preferred bolt rifles for "micro-calibers", such as 221 Fireball, 223, 300BO, 7.62x39, and 6.5 Grendel. These bolt rifles are lighter and more compact than R700, and as such favored for hunting... lighter to carry in field and easier to maneuver around ATV and in deer blind. Right now the only option for the 2 most popular rifles is a full on custom conversion for approx. $1000 (barrel blank, reamer, and gunsmith). Availability of an off-the shelf conversion barrel would lower the threshold for shooters on the fence.

You should have your guys spin up a barrel for a CZ527 for you to test. It will quickly become a favorite for you and your grandsons.

I took this cull axis buck this weekend with the HAM’R. Shot him with the 150gr SST round and he ran 10 yards and dropped dead! Lots of good meat on this guy!!!

I took this pig with the 130 grain hot cor. As you can see by its location it fell dead in its tracks.

I have done two of the RAR conversions now... both are sub MOA and a real nice addition to the Ham'r line-up. Great light weight ranch rifle now with a caliber that fits the bill. I don't mind the Ruger trigger but may swap in a Timney and see if it rounds out the build.

This is only for the Ruger “American Ranch Rifle” (with detachable magazine) correct? I wanna be sure I have the correct donor rifle.

I am pretty sure any RA will work in the calibers Mr. Wilson listed...barrel to stock clearance my need to be adjusted on the standard model depending on barrel contour. If you desire the AR mag then the :ranch" is the only option.

I have no preference really. I just really want a bolt action Ham’r! Whichever model is best suited for the conversion is fine with me.

It doesn't matter for the conversion whether it's one of the older plastic 5rd mag or AR15 mag model, we've done both.

We've done a few CZ conversions, but the improperly located mag release made these a NO GO, I was repeatedly ejecting the mag while carrying the rifle.

Bill,

Not to be contrary - is it possible that you mean the Howa Mini, which has the magazine release positioned in front of magazine. The Howa is famous for dropping its magazines when carried or even when setting up to shoot.
[Linked Image]
This is one of Howa Mini's critical design flaws, and for which reason there are some recent aftermarket innovations to resolve this long-standing issue:
1) Diversified Innovative Products Inc "DIP" offers a after-market bottom metal (actually made from metal unlike the factory plastic bottom metal).
2) Oregunsmithing has created a complete replacement bottom metal that incorporates a internal blind magazine and hinged floorplate, which is rumored to be under consideration by Legacy Sports, Howa's US Distributor, to offer as a factory option as a solution to the mag release issue and POS factory magazine issue.

The CZ 527 magazine release (see picture below) is recessed underneath the rifle lying midway along the bottom metal against the magazine. It takes a firm grip/pinch of the magazine release button against the magazine in order to strip the magazine out f the rifle. Even with a flush cut magazine/single shot loading block, it is not something that is easily bumped or accidentally released. It is a sturdy little rifle.

Thanks! I purchased the conversion kit, but forgot to add a thread protector to the order. I’ll grab one of those later on when I find a donor rifle.

SP you are absolutely correct, it was the Howa we had issues with. We haven't re-barreled a CZ yet, tks

Remington 700 type bottom metal for the Howa mini. http://www.oregunsmithingllc.com Saw that on another forum from a machinist that had a working model but had some supply issues and other thigs to work on, that recommended that site.

There are other better options than the mag fallout problems of the DIP makes one that is aluminum and you pull down on the mag release to drop out the mag.

Looking for a little help. Just bought a Wilson 300 ham’r barrel and put on an existing AR I had. It shot great. Great groups, but I noticed brass came out with an vertical indention toward top of brass. Right at top of spent brass. Anybody see this before, and what does it mean?

If it's not dribbling out of the ejection port or causing malfunctions it's ok. I'd replace my spring with a known quality component (proper weight & length) and it'll likely go away. The mouth of the case is likely banging into the brass deflector. It's a pretty common occurrence across the AR platform.

Tdbduckhinte, a picture or two would help diagnose the issue. Has this been something that started recently? Or just since you did the barrel swap? Do you notice any excess gas from the ejection port? More so than when it was setup for the previous caliber? Was it originally a .223/5.56 or 300Blk? Factory loads or handloads with current setup and previous?

Also what direction do the cases eject? Typically 1:00-2:30 more gas than necessary, 3:00-4:00 ideal, past 4:00 close to undergassed. If it goes to bolt stop on the last shot every time it's not undergassed, especially with a very loose hold.

My gun was 556 that I converted to 300 ham’r. It was ejecting brass at about 4:00. I will attach a couple pics. Thank in advance for advise.
