Has anyone else been there?
I recently developed A-Fib. Doctor put me on Eliquis. That stuff is kicking my butt - fuzzy headed/no energy/poor sleep. I've been toughing it out hoping to adjust to it, but it's been three weeks and I don't see it happening.
If you can't laugh at yourself, give me a call. I'll gladly laugh at you. "I keep trying to see Nancy Pelosi's and Chuck Schumer's point of view, but I can't seem to get my head that far up my [censored]." Senator John Kennedy, Louisiana

Out of curiosity, did you get the vax?

No vax. I've never had the flu in my life. Haven't had a common cold in over 20 years. A-Fib was identified by my Cardiologist during a routine visit and annual EKG. I did not feel the A-Fib and felt fine until I started the Eliquis.

Looks like it is a anticoagulant that some are pushing now over warfarin or coumadin.I guess it's good because you don't have to have regular blood tests but it is pricey. If it is causing you problems ask your Cardiologist to change you over to something else.

Hope you get to feeling better soon, scary stuff.
Lost a co-worker yesterday to a massive heart attack. Was younger than me, 42-43 yrs old. Seemed healthy....

The wife and MIL are both on Eliquis for A-Fib, and have no issues at all. It is so much better than the Coumadin (warfarin) they were on previously, with constant testing and adjusting dosages. Many different types and severities of A-Fib, and I'm sure your dr is erring on the side of caution. They do minimize eating a lot of greens and vitamin k foods, and limit themselves to small amounts of alcohol or wine. Look at your personal life-style, and see what you can moderate on??
I assume you are taking the standard daily 5mg pill? I developed a major blood clot 1 1/2 yrs ago in my leg, and they put me on the Eliquis as a precaution, until I could diet, lose some weight, get the comprehensive clotting testing done. After 6 months, they removed me from it. None of us have ever had an issue or any side effects, and we have all had the Covid vax too, if it matters.
Definitely talk to your doctor about it, and maybe a half dose (2.5) would help, or you can try several of the other blood thinners like Xarelto or Pradaxa

I have been on Coumadin for 19 years and only adjusted the medication twice in all that time.I do my own blood test at home once a week or twice a month whatever the dr wants and yes stay away from foods with high vitamin K,grapefruit and cranberrys/ and the juice.

In 4th grade I had rheumatic fever ---------- that caused a-fib --(mitral valve prolapse with atrial fibrillation)-----heart problem discovered when I was in the Army, NOT by a doctor, but by an Army medic----------------skipping all the trauma for 40 yrs, I finally had an ablation, that cured my problem. They wanted me to take blood thinner the rest of my life,, coumadin, I think, I took it for 2 months and quit. Been good for about 20 yrs now .

I've been on Eloquis for A-fib for about 14 months now. I do have sleeping problems but I take 10 mil of Melatonin before bed. It does help.

The big risk with valves and A fib is a stroke or a pulmonary embolus, depending on what side of the heart is affected.
The reason for the blood thinners is research shows a lot of people who are diagnosed with A fib have a sizeable clot in their atrium which could fracture off and cause a catastrophic life ending event. Smaller things can happen similar with bad valves, you fleck off a small clot and you cause a stroke.
These issues are real, but don't happen to everyone. If you aren't a doctor, I would listen to your doctor, they usually know what they are talking about. If meds the doctor gives you make you feel bad, then ask to change as there are multiple in the same class.
