Where is the cheapest place to get a windshield replaced? I have always used Safelite, but the have doubled their price recently. Mobile replacement would be best.

I was talking to my mom the other day who is in her 70's. She hasn't broken a windshield in a long time, and she had a rock crack a corner. Her windshield was $1600 which wasn't the worst part -- the worst part was that there was a 4 month wait for a new one. Moral of the story, look at time not just cost

Talk to your local dealer or note lot guy. They have one on call all the time. Contact them and see what it would be if you paid cash. Just had my wife’s replaced by a small local guy for $350 in my drive way.

With the pandemic, I can see where costs are now 10-20% more than prior. I quoted out my F-150 about 2-3 years ago via Safelite and other more Mom and Pop outfits and they ran roughly about $50 apart. Non-OEM refurbed glass was about $275-325 at the time and OEM glass, $325-$400 at the time. So, I would assume a 10-20% markup higher now...

Just went through Safelite yesterday, have my appointment scheduled for 2 weeks from now. An OEE on a Tundra was $435 total with taxes and fees, to go OEM was another 400 if I remember correctly.

Yes!! I worked in some specialty/hot rod shops for a while and we got to know a lot of the other shops in the area to trade stuff with… everybody has a windshield guy. Tote the note/sidewalk dealerships especially. Because I travel in Louisiana a lot…I get windshields done in my driveway literally every year. Just got a new truck that already needs one but haven’t done this one yet…but my 2017 Sierra was $325 in my driveway for the last several years

My last break sent a crack straight down the middle of my viewing lane. You know when you get a wild eyelash that pops out and your eye tries to refocus and it sends you into a state of vertigo? That’s what that crack was doing to me, one eye focused on the road and the other would try to pop into focus on that danged crack. That one had to go 😂

Check with your auto insurance agent it maybe covered under your policy for a small deductible, mine is only $50.00 with USAA.

Choose wisely... we had a Yukon Denali that had a non-OEM windshield installed and we never could get that mf'er to stop making noise at highway speed.

I used an independent guy for years. I'd call him, he'd come over to work and replace it in an hour. Always around $200.
Haven't replaced one in years but if I did, I'd look him up.

I've found that the Hot Rodders are the best source for who does quality work at a reasonable price. I'm friends with the owner of a local shop that does exhaust system work for rodders, he's the best source of information whenever I need work, he referred me to an upholstery shop for one job and an body shop for another., both shops were excellent.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Lots of wisdom spoken here and why I ended up going Safelite as they warranty their work for 45-60 days on OEM installs too..

Be careful if you get a quote from Safelite. They added almost $300 to my daughters Rav4 for resetting the safety stuff. It was including when we submitted the make and model info for the quote. I fought it but did not win.

If you want a cheap, Chinese windshield, call Safelite . They are the Walmart of auto glass. We replaced windshields for 40 years at our family glass shop and got out of the business because it was too much hassle to get good OEM products. If you make a claim on insurance, your premium WILL go up. Insurance companies hold YOU responsible for any claim if it’s your fault or not.

I have not made many claims under comprehensive but have never seen an increase when I did.
