seen this posted on some whitetail hunts. I've never seen it before. is this part of the native , low fence population vs. pen raised breeding program deer?

Dont think it so much NATIVE low fence etc., more likely a deer born on the ranch not in a breeding pen etc. or a put and take deer.

Most likely a deer from parents who may have been born in a breeding pen. Offspring down the line and not put in and take deer.

When I see that I see it as a deer that was born from a mother that was pen bred or maybe artificially inseminated before being released to give birth. There is usually nothing natural about it.

Simply means they have introduced genetics into the ranch in the past from a breeding operation or something similar but that the specific deer was not born in a pen somewhere but on the ranch.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

"pasture born" bucks are what has taken the fun out of deer contest. A 270" buck is not a native buck and a pasture born buck is really no different than a breeder buck.

Pasture born bucks typically harvested within high fence. Lots of difference between pen raised and pasture born.

Sounds like a term used by a ranch that has released pen raised deer, and wants to take the guilt away from the hunter by claiming that the offspring was actually born in the wild.
In other words the pasture born buck won't be sporting an ear tag.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Those pasture born bucks are awesome, a guy could kill a stud every year if they chose to go that way and for me the guys that don’t have a lot of time to spend hunting it’s a no brainer.. With what most guys spend in a season on a lease, feed, gas and the likes they can kill a great deer for less money than most of you guys. If I didn’t have access to my own big deer it would be a great fit for me, little time to hunt and a great success rate it would be a no brainer.

Pen raised and pasture born are different.

This is exactly right except for being a no brainer.
