My fencing contractor however....took 8 rounds in the Sutherland Springs massacre. I do not envy him. Terrifying.

Yessr me too but was bird shot. I was 12-13 and my buddy & I crossed the neighbors fence chasing a jack rabbit. We were running up hill, then all of a sudden that pickup truck came flying over the hill straight at us. We turned and ran like hell back to the fence. That old man shot at us several times while coming at us. My buddy was bigger/heavier/slower, he got peppered. I was over that fence 100 yrds ahead of him. He ripped his new jeans getting through the fence & his Momma was not happy. Rancher called his Daddy (Stxranchman knows him) and we were in big trouble. He whooped his Son's azz with that big ol' leather weight lifting belt, and then headed my direction. NOPE, That man was 6' 8" and worked out every day. I ran like a mofo.

On the day I was shot we were dove hunting on my Grandfather's property in Central Texas. A place we had hunted before. It had been a dry summer and the birds were concentrating around the available water when leaving their roosts in the evening. On the place (besides some stock tanks) was an old Caliche Pit. It was about 30 yds. wide, maybe 75 yds. long and approximately 10' deep. It would hold water from summer rain showers and was attractive to dove.

We generally hunted side by side but we noticed that we were missing shot opportunities when birds flying the other side of the pit were just too far away.

So it was decided that one of us would go to the other side of the pit to pick up on those birds. I was agreed upon to NOT break a 45° angle of shot IF a bird were to come between us. All was working just fine with both of us getting shots on our respective sides. I was watching the skyline on my side when I heard a shot from my Brothers direction. I turned to see a dove falling and a second bird flare and then 'dip' hard so that it was only about 8' off the ground.

My Brother in his excitement to get the 'double' was so focused on the bird that he forgot about the 45° rule and also failed to see me standing by a cedar tree.

I just had time to turn away when I saw him still tracking the bird. At the shot I felt a burning/stinging sensation in my back and hip. I yelled at him "you just shot me".....and I was quite mad about it. There is nothing you can do to relieve the burning sensation for about 20 seconds or so. Thankfully most of the pellets *7-1/2 shot from a 20 ga. Imp Modified choke* were just under the skin (except one I still have in my hip). But its not pleasant having the doctor remove them.

50 years later.....we laugh about it sometimes but had things been any different a person could have lost their eyesight or worse. And YES he did get the second bird (at the same time he got me).

Not me but nephew managed to shoot himself in the a$$ with a pistol.

I lost a dear friend, shot himself in the stomach with a .45 1911. Sad, he was a great guy. Some thought it was suicide but I don’t believe it. Y’all be careful.

My favorite of many minor shootings-
Someone yelled "low bird!" I was looking right down the landowner's pretty daughter's barrel at about 100 yards. Had time to squat and cover my eyes. She missed the bird, but I considered giving her one of my own.

Dove hunting again, some primarily mouth-breather socialist shot through low trees/fence line from the next crowded field. I yelled "hands up- don't shoot" at the bushes (it was relevant at the time) before the pain took my suave sense of humor. Looked like 6 shot when I dug it out of my protective fat layer.

Used to play "1-pump" with bbs in 10-pump airguns as a kid. A sort of higher-stakes paintball.

That same thing happened to me once, I was the shooter. Ended up digging a pellet out of that guys ear lobe.

Couple times with bird shot dove hunting. Have had guns pulled on me twice.

No. Just at.

Yes, one time while dove hunting with 2 other friends. I still have on pellet lodged in the end of my nose. I was hit with 9 pellets...several others broke the skin and one creased my cheek.

yes and the smell of burning flesh (when it's your own is nasty) sticks with you. High point is muzzle flash can help keep bleeding down sometimes!
