Probably a long shot (no pun intended), but I am a relatively novice long range rifle shooter looking to potentially squeeze in a 1 or 2 day long range rifle class before my first elk hunt in Nov. I have found a few offerings close to my home state of GA, but they either focus more on precision/competition shooting with competition grade equipment and/or require the level 1 attendees to use their precision rifles and match ammunition. I get this, because I am sure that they are trying to eliminate external variables in order to focus on shooter technique.

Ideally, I would like to find a more hunter-focused course that allows me to use my rifle (lightweight Tikka 30-06) and helps me to become a better shooter while navigating the challenges that my rifle or hunting scenario might present - recoil due to lighter weight, distance limitations of 30-06, hunting shooting positions, setup and dialing for my particular reticle/scope, etc. I have some experience, but would like a ground up into mid level 1-2 day sort of course.

Does anyone have any recommendations for experienced and reputable schools between Texas and the east coast? Much appreciated.

I've never taken JG's course, but I have shot at his range and payed attention to what he says and does at the competitions that he used to host. Just taking instruction from him and others at competitions has made me a better shot. I gotta take the class one of these days.

I havent met JG or taken his course but from his post on here he seems very knowledgeable. Most on here seem to agree. It seems what he offers is exactly would you want. I plan to take his course some day.

Agree, I'd pay that in a heartbeat. I'd pay double that to park my chair in the shade next to the tower for that class.

My heckling has to be worth at least that.

Recently took a course with ATX Precision. Clay the owner/founder is a good guy, veteran and big time hunter. Learned a ton and was punching tin our 435 yards. He took ample time making sure my equipment was setup correctly, amazing how much you think you know until you meet an expert.

My entire focus was on hunting for what it's worth and he is very passionate about hunting as well. Good luck.

Its pricey and they are probably all booked up for this year, but a super good program that is tailored for hunters...I went through it several years ago and learned a ton...
