It's going to be a long time before I would even consider one. The whole country switching over may not happen as fast as some think, there where people who thought we would have flying cars by now. They were wrong.

I don't think in my lifetime I will ever pull up to the cow sale and all the gooseneck's be hooked up to EV's. Lol

I can pull our rv from here to Ruidoso without refueling up.When they can produce a vehicle that can pull our rv from here to Ruidoso without recharging then I might consider looking at one but I don't see that happening, now or ever.

I like them for high density population areas, but not for the majority of Texas. I would rather see money being spent to replant forests and put trees in the medians all across this great state, instead of those stupid concrete barriers and the even more useless cable barrier systems. Trees would filter the pollution better and once mature will stop vehicles coming across without an issue. Plus, we need to focus on building more lakes (perhaps with hydro electric generating dams) and improving the electric grid here in Texas before we go all electric.

My brother bought the Chrysler Pacifica van. His problem was a sensor that kept the batteries from overheating.

How are the democrats going to fun roads with no gas taxes? Start imposing a tax on electricity for charging your car?

Both State and Federal annual fees, 20 something states already have them for EVs paid by combining the fee with vehicle registrations. Road use fees such as tolls. And mileage fees.

Look closer, the EV's want free electricity. How many will report mileage?

One shot is all it should take.

Gas, Diesel, Electric, meh, pizz on all of them. Let’s go back to horses and mules, then the Demorats will be selling the world that Equine flatulence is depleting the ozone.

Seriously though, I’m not ready for an EV, it’s impractical at this time for me. However, when you look at the technological advancements, it will be the future. I bet I will be pushing daises when it happens, but when I was told in 2007 we would be running electric frac fleets in 5 years I laughed and probably shouldn’t have. That’s apples to oranges, but the common part is the advancements in technology are gaining speed.

Not just the Democrats. Alabama charges a annual $200 registration fee on EV's. This is to offset their lack of paying a gas tax.

Pretty wild, huh? I’m not crazy about all of the massive electric cables running everywhere, but not dealing with the noise is great. And where does the electricity come from for the electric frac fleet? Natural gas, of course, at least the ones I’ve seen.

Wireline is heading in the same direction. A few operators are requiring it. We’re talking about getting an electric skid.

Im ok with electric if/when it is as practical as what we have now.

I dont think it will ever get to that point though, especially with the complications of making the batteries etc. Like others have said above minding the materials for the batteries alone is more destructive than the entire process of fossil fuel powered cars. And again where does the electric come from.... Its not all solar and wind, which have environmental issues of their own.

The performance issues will become practical over time. massive money is being spent on battery technology and other enhancements which will benefit all. What I do not understand is how the mining for the minerals, the disposal of the batteries and the need for increased generation of electricity is going to help our environment.

Batteries get recycled, just as lead acid batteries do now. Performance is good enough that many people can use an EV as their primary transportation mode but for those of us who use a truck, it works as a secondary vehicle.

I like EV driving, but i’m not some uneducated tree hugging idiot like some in this thread have suggested. I don’t drive it to make an environmental impact. I just like the advantages it offers. Actually, I don’t drive it much at all as it is the wife’s daily commute vehicle. 32 miles round trip 5 days a week adds about $38 to the electric bill each month.

From some of the comments here, many are not aware of DC fast charging (not doable at home), which can add well over a hundred miles of range back to the battery in the time it takes you to get out, walk inside and take a whiz and come back to the car.

So do you do that trip non-stop? Otherwise, you could be recharging while you stop to take a leak or grab a bite to eat.

I also remember back in the 80’s when they said we could never transmit data faster than 1200 baud on a standard copper phone line. But for many years my internet ran at 6 mbs/sec on standard copper phone service.

I'll base my decision on price/performance.

Does a partial charge have any negative effect on the battery?
