I need opinions on best red dots less than $300. Preferably a lot less.

Presley,

I like the Holosun 507c-X2 its close to $300 range. I wear glasses and have an astigmatism some of the red dot have a starburst like effect due to the Astigmatism. The holosun seems to be better for me. My other is a Vortex Venom its good for the price point $230-ish range. It was my first and worked well, I just like the holosun more. If you dont wear glasses it opens you to all brands equally. I'd stay away from the ncStars. Good luck on your search.

Ultra dot for recoil resistance. Running a fastfire3 on one revolver and like it. Don t go cheap recoil will kill a red dot. Dimmable is nice and the smaller the dot is best for hunting.

No problems with Vortex Venom on a 9mm. Battery lasts about 18 mths.

One shot is all it should take.

I second this recommendation. I have the same Holosun Model red dot on a Ruger Mark iv and its been a very very good red dot. I also have vortex red dots that are nice as well. I have had great customer service from both companies. I have had a Trijicon Red dot on a pistol before and it is a very nice product, but I just think you are paying quite a bit more for the brand name. I find the Holosun to have all of the best features at the best price point.

Depending on the platform, I would vote for the Holosun. I have one mounted on my Shadow Systems MR918 and with my slight astigmatism, it still works great. Had a work buddy shoot mine after his Vortex, and he wanted a Holosun afterwards. I also have a Swampfox Justice on a Rock Island 10mm and it has been great so far. They are a bit cheaper than the Holosun, but I have close to a 1000 rds on the Holosun and only about 150 on the Swampfox.
