Really enjoyed that

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Anyone tried going after them in NM? I'm giving it some serious thought this year.

I've shot blue grouse in Northern New Mexico. It was a neat hunt.

And why, today, remember misses?

Got 4 solid points this morning in Montana. First one the pair of birds flushed wild before I got in shooting range. Next 3 points were busted up by young dog running them up after older dog had them locked down.

What area? I'm trying to find a cabin in a little town/village inside the habitat as suggested by NMF&G. Trying to avoid the bigger ski towns.

That's awesome! I'm looking for lodging now. I'm thinking it would be a great family trip. Thanks!

Blues, dusky, grouse are easier to hunt without dog. Great tasting birds, we hunt them during archery elk season.

Not a big fan of blue grouse. It sounds fun, until you're busting brush all day. I'd rather hunt sharptail and sage grouse

We usually get into them along roads and in old clearcuts, not the thick stuff.
They taste way better than sage grouse and sharpies too.

I don't like running my dogs along roads, especially with people flying around on SxS utvs like it's the baja 1k. Also, I'll take a sage or sharptail breast grilled medium/medium rare any day over a blue. Don't get me wrong they taste good but it might as well be chicken.

I did get into a bunch the other day packing out a friend's elk. Might have to go back after archery season ends.

Trust me, if I were cruising around with a .22lr just looking to get some dinner, ye ole road grouse would be at the top of the list.

On occasion you can find them out on sage brush benches/hill sides, or on the edges of parks. Then blues are awesome. It's just getting there...

It's not Blue Grouse and it's not New Mexico but I just got back (yesterday) from a ruffed grouse/woodcock hunt in Michigan. I go annually but this year we hunted a different location and it was amazing.
