I posted this at the tail end of another thread but thought I would repost. This buck was killed 2 seasons ago. We watched him from age 2 to age 6. A basic 10 point scoring 198 - his G2's were close to 16 inches - LF, no introduced genetics, no steroids, just lots of protein and waiting until he matured - lots of debate on culling but we culled the hell out of inferior bucks for 13 years - maybe it made no difference in our results but IMO it made a huge difference because we went at it hard. First pic is him at age 3. Next at age 5. Killed him at age 6

thanks guys - I just get a little fed up sometimes with a few folks on here who claim that anybody who kills world class bucks is cheating - it may be the case in some instances but there are LF ranches in Texas producing amazing bucks every year who are playing by the rules - I know many ranch owners in STexas who are doing things the right way and producing incredible bucks
someone posted on another thread that if some of these guys keep it up then nobody will post their deer on this forum - I am real close to being there

Is that beam just turned way down or was that scored as a drop(NT)?

I hope you don't stop posting your top bucks. A lot of people like me live vicariously through your hunts. I know I will never get a buck anywhere near what some of those ranches produce but I love seeing them and what can be done on these well run low fenced ranches.

That deer was already pretty special at age 3 and a no doubt future giant.
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Did he end up scoring typical with that drop being the mainbeam or NT? great question - I was not sure of all of the details since this was two years ago so I asked my lease member. Here are the details He was officially scored by a B&C scorer - 194 gross - netted 177 typical - was not scored as a drop but as a down turned beam ( which it obviously is) So he qualified as a typical for the book but he has not officially entered him yet -

Hell of a buck I guess I'm just old school and don't really care at all about the net. He is a 194" STUD! lol It is obvious that you guys intensely managed so I would think you logged body weights. Did you go back and look to see what your body weights did on mature bucks in the time that you had this place as far as the average when you started vs the average the last year? Also, what was the heaviest one? I am always amazed when I got down to Maverick to my two friend's pasture and see the size of these deer. Each year they kill at least 3 bucks that will dress out near or even over 200 lbs. I think the heaviest they've killed is 212 dressed out.

I agree, I haven't calculated a net on any of ours except one of the bigger 8's my dad shot just to see how similar his sides were.
Hope folks keep posting the pictures, I like looking at deer.
Takes a lot of time discipline and hard work for that lease to turn out the deer it does, I don't think many are cut out for it, or would need time to adjust to it. Congrats.
It's hell eatin em live

Yes we recorded body weights - and yes we saw an increase over the years with our weights especially when we added cottonseed and started putting out dewormer - our mature bucks would live weight 230-250 at the top end - so sounds similar to your friends place

Yes sir, I'd bet you were very close to where they are at for sure.
