A friend was a state of Texas welfare fraud investigator. He had some crazy stories to tell. His motto was "catching cheats one at a time" Another worked for the State Comptrollers office, amazing how stupid people are trying to collect sales taxes and then not pay them over to the state. He said his job was boring, but it was satisfying and he met a lot interesting people.

My wife respected the Texas Rangers up until they started telling her what to say in a trial to hang her sheriff. She told them no she would not lie and they got all mad and prissy about it.She pointed to her badge and said When I was sworn in and put this badge on I swore to uphold the law and I will not lie for you or anybody else.IF you put me on the stand I will tell the judge you put pressure on me to lie and I refused to do that. That day she lost all respect for most of the texas rangers.

I had a damn good partner leave after 14 years on the job. He moved to Hawaii so his wife could practice medicine. He became a welfare fraud investigator for Hawaii and absolutely loved it. He said it was zero stress and just as much fun as being a big city defective.

I’ve got 15+ years in and 14+ years to go, I’ll leave at 51. I’ve done most of my career in patrol or a function of patrol with 8 of those years being a plain clothes officer. Never liked the detective work, I was much better at tracking people down, doing surveillance, and serving warrants. Been a Patrol sergeant now for 3 years and can honestly say it’s been fun and probably one of the best jobs on the department.

I’d recommend that if you have the slightest interest in police work, even if it’s just because you like watching Live PD, come do a ride along and experience it for yourself.

I think they frown upon that.

And for that reason, I'm out.

I had a job offer when I retired from the USAF being a Tarrant County Jailer. That wouldn't have ended well after the first loser spit on me!

I respect the hell out of the blue and have no idea how anyone could do it…with public opinion and due to the way their jobs are scrutinized by joe stupid arm chair QB’s. No way I would ever recommend that field of work for a young man. Especially realizing we are closer to a social outbreak than we have been since the Vietnam days…y’all could be faced with some really difficult moral decisions that I definitely don’t envy you for.

I think we could be closer to Australia than most realize. I hope I’m wrong, but that’s the direction the shop is pointed.

Worked in patrol until a spot opened up in warrants and began running warrants lots of fun hunting man. It holds me over till deer season starts. Patrol is fun but got tired of the nonsense and foolishness calls that took up a lot of your time when you could be being proactive. The only way I recommend this line of work now is if your able to go federal LE.

One of the reasons we have cops is so firemen have someone to look up to.

Last night I assisted the feds apprehend a wanted person. Ol boy fled on foot and my dog was on him. At literally the last second the dude jumps in the smallest tree I’ve ever seen anyone climb and my dog shoots by him, hits the brakes, and jumps up to snatch him from the tree. All he grabs is air cuz the guy pulled his legs up and was hanging like a sloth. By that time he’s screaming that he gives up so I called my dog and the guy proned out. Close call for that guy. Feds found 20 pounds or so of dope in his apartment.

In the second pic the dot is where Jack snapped air when the dude pulled himself up. That tree wouldn’t have held for long, but It was just enough to not get bit.

This is why I love the job.
