I've noticed a significant drop off in bucks visiting the protein feeders in the last few days. Oaks are full or acorns. Could this be the reason?

Not sure, mine has been for longer than the past few days, but have had several bucks coming to feed earlier in the year that have gone missing for a month or so.

Have they lost their velvet? If so they are probably gonna be out moving around more and less concentrated on feed.

Seems normal to me.. My protein feed bill is high from the end of May through the first of September. Any feed in there by the first of October will most likely be there until February. Things pick up again for me in March but not heavy until May. This has been the pattern for years feeding protein in areas with oaks and without.

It is if the acorns are falling already.......this time of year deer especially bucks are built to focus on food that stores fat.........corn would fit this criteria as well......

Mast crops will cause bucks to back off of feed for a while....acorns, mesquite beans, tunas(prickly pear fruit), etc all will be first choice when available. IME in South Texas bucks will walk over corn to get to protein. Down south protein consumption in October is very high for bucks since they are packing on the pounds prior to the pre-rut. Rain can back them off this time of the year also when it has been very dry for a while...the fresh green growth is like spring time to deer this time of the year.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

Protein being hit hard. Corn is being ignored completely. Pretty normal for this time of the year at the ranch. Looking like a light acorn crop with most Post’s not producing this year. Jack’s should be going strong but drop later, so hopefully we have a strong early seasons.
