Does anybody know if a buck killed on a MLD ranch qualifies for the Texas record books? I assume an archery killed buck definitely would qualify, but does a rifle kill qualify? Thanks

Cant think of any record book that would exclude an MLD buck. Theres not any type stigma attached to MLD that Im aware of. Also, Im not really aware on an actual Texas record book. Texas Big Game Awards records are as close as I know of, but I dont really consider it a "record book" per se.

Yes I was referring to BC. Also, I forgot to mention that this would be on a low fence ranch. So, if one killed a 215” net typical with a rifle in October, that would qualify as the new world record? Thanks

Interesting question....I've never thought about that scenario until now. I assume it would qualify, but I'm sure a potential world record deer would get heavily scrutinized by some folks for being taken during the "normal archery season" with a rifle....even though it is perfectly legal. It would be interesting to hear someone from B&C discuss this topic.

The entry affidavit states:
"For the purpose of entry into the Boone and Crockett Club's® records, North American big game harvested by the use of the following methods or under the following conditions are ineligible: .... IX. Not in full compliance with the game laws or regulations of the federal government or of any state, province, territory, or tribal council on reservations or tribal lands"
As long as the deer and hunter conform to Texas and Federal laws and regulations, it SHOULD be valid.

Ive never read the particulars of BC requirements, but somewhere it would address "what they consider" "fair chase". But Im fairly sure MLD does not effect fair chase status cause Im almost certain there are many MLD ranches that enter heads in BC.

But Im fairly sure MLD does not effect fair chase status cause Im almost certain there are many MLD ranches that enter heads in BC. All 9 requirements from the entry affidavit: For the purpose of entry into the Boone and Crockett Club's® records, North American big game harvested by the use of the following methods or under the following conditions are ineligible: I. Spotting or herding game from the air, followed by landing in its vicinity for the purpose of pursuit and shooting; II. Herding or chasing with the aid of any motorized equipment; III. Use of electronic communication devices (2-way radios, cell phones, etc.) to guide hunters to game, artificial lighting, electronic light intensifying devices (night vision optics), sights with built-in electronic range-finding capabilities (including smart scopes), drones/unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), thermal imaging equipment, electronic game calls or cameras/timers/motion tracking devices that transmit images and other information to the hunter; IV. Confined by artificial barriers, including escape proof fenced enclosures; V. Transplanted for the purpose of commercial shooting; VI. By the use of traps or pharmaceuticals; VII. While swimming, helpless in deep snow, or helpless in any other natural or artificial medium; VIII. On another hunter's license; IX. Not in full compliance with the game laws or regulations of the federal government or of any state, province, territory, or tribal council on reserva-tions or tribal lands; VII. While swimming, helpless in deep snow, or helpless in any other natural or artificial medium; Looks to me if you can say you adhere to these requirements, then the deer is good to go.

Huntnfly67, we may need a separate thread to deal with posting those requirements. Popcorn may be needed. Ive never bothered to look them up but was familiar with most. I had heard they constantly have to change them to keep up with technology. I had heard specifically about how they addressed cell cams but hadnt heard the final version. I thought they addressed the "real time" use of sending pics to hunter. I also didnt realize they had addressed scopes but I dont know enough about those type scopes to know how limiting that may be to some. Anyway, many wont like their rules, but I figure its their book and they can do what they want, so just dont enter it or buy it, if you dont like.

I don't have a dog in the hunt either way, but know there are enough opinions out there to keep the 'discussion' 'lively'.

VI. By the use of traps or pharmaceuticals;
Now all these deer that have Covid antibodies are ineligible for the book...because who knows if they contracted the disease naturally or got vaccinated!!!!!
