I just bought one before my new 17 hmr rifle came in. I had to sight it in at 100 yds on 10 power with 20 gr bullet. But a 17 gr bullet you use 12 power at 100 yds. It has BDC to shoot out to 350 yds. I use it to shoot small pieces of rocks at 200 yds. I watch on u tube a guy shot out to 300 yds with a 22 mag. He was using the hawke Vantage IR 4x12x40AO 22 mag model. I woulnt only shoot water bottles or clay target at that distance. But its a nice very clear scope. Its my first Hawke scope.

You can use any magnification you want while zeroing, and at any distance.

The guy at Hawke told me to do it that way. For the bdc to work right . He said 20gr bullets had to be on 10 power. 17gr bullets had to be on 12 power . The BDC are set in scope at 100 yds, 150,, 200, ,250, 300, 350.. Yardage are set inside scope.

He is doing what he was told to do, that doesn't make it right

Again, if you are just zeroing, you can have magnification on anything you want. The holds do not come into play, until you're shooting farther than your zero distance. And his recommendation on magnification setting is something you need to verify.

I hate BDC reticles because they are usually not correct. Sometimes they are close, sometimes they are very wrong. Ammo velocity varies, some barrels are faster than others, some barrels are slower. Muzzle velocity in this case, will throw off the holds if things do not match what the scope manufacturer shot with. Using the same bullets as them, with the same BC, you've still got the MV potential variation.

Never heard of em but looks like a lot of people like it. Good option to add to the budget list
