Why are their rifle season so short and do you anticipate them lengthening it in the near future?

Oklahoma and Arkansas have very generous archery seasons, along with dedicated primitive firearm seasons that run before modern gun. It has worked well for many years, and I don’t see it changing any time soon.
Just for reference, I hunted both states for the last 30 years. Still spend a week in Oklahoma every year for muzzleloader.

Two years ago in Oklahoma they had proposed lengthening rifle season. My landowner is well connected and politically and his info said it was going to pass for sure. Well it didn’t. I’m not sure where the opposition came from but supposedly the local bow hunters didn’t want more Texans coming in which would happen with longer rifle. They look at regulations every other year so maybe next season it will pass.

We’ve had a place in OK for about 15 years
We too heard a few years ago they were looking to extend it
I’d like at least another week of rifle
And hunter orange is stupid for private land btw

At least one week would make a huge difference, especially if tacked on earlier.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

There is the holiday antlerless season which allows a couple extra doe to be taken. But you have to have the rifle license to do so. IN theory, using bow and rifle, one could take 8 deer off a place in OK (6 for normal tag and 2 extra antlerless in holiday season that don't count toward normal tag limits). Not too shabby.

Texas & Oklahoma should secede & form the new state of Texoma. Texas season rules prevail. Texas, Oklahoma and bring in Kansas too (We'd have all the good deer hunting wrapped up)! Texomasas.
