Looks like you have the basics, though you’ll need a scale. As for the powder thrower, that orange Lyman 55, it’s a good one. A small learning curve however, on pistol powder loads.

I agree with 603. You got the basics just need a good beam scale. I’d look for a rcbs 505 they can be had fairy easy. A good set of calipers is another must to get going. Ill recommend that you take apart and clean the die set as well as the press and powder measure, inspect for issues, oil and reassemble. I really like that old press. Very cool.

Thanks guys... I do have a beam scale that was also included that I didn’t picture.
What I don’t understand and admiringly haven’t done any research on is the hand drill deal in the second post and what I’m guessing is sizing bits in the OP. Any insight?

If you are talking about the first pic in the second post it is a case trimmer like Gary ask about. the little pilot piece on the cutting head goes in the case mouth of the case being trimmed.

No apology necessary, you gotta start somewhere and this is a great place. Do you have a reloading manual? Lots of info in there too.

Following up on Gary's suggestion of a manual, the Lyman manual is quite instructive on reloading though there are others that have more loads but the powder manufactures and some of the bullet manufactures have lots of load data online.

In addition to the loading manuals suggested, you can go to YouTube and find many videos on basic reloading.
I was wrong...on anything technical. Fitz............. is right, ya know............

Like others said the orange piece in the second post is a case trimmer. The bits in the first post are deburring tools to take sharp edges off case mouths after sizing/trimming to aid in seating etc. A good book will help, but what might be even more demonstrative is getting on YouTube, I'm sure you can find a plethora of videos showing the process.... if a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth a lot more.

One of the presses I have is the Lyman AA like yours. A couple of suggestions below.
The shell holders used in those old Lyman presses are no longer made. They are called J type shell holders. You can still find them on Ebay or other secondary markets but can be pricey. The easier thing to do is to buy the Lyman J to X shell holder adapter. Then you can use the more “modern” X type shell holders which you can find anywhere. All of the current Lyman, RCBS, and Lee shell holders all fit the adapter. You do have to get a different priming post though if you use the adapter.
Priming on the AA can be done, but it’s not the easiest. Since I have other presses as well as hand primers, I rarely use the AA to prime. You’ll be fine when you start, but you may want to look at other options down the road.
You can mount the #55 powder measure on the turret, but you will need the threaded drop tubes (large & small) as well as the 7/8x14 adapter. Lyman recently discontinued the #55 powder measure. If you are missing any pieces, I would order them from Lyman sooner than later.

Outstanding information. Something I wasn't aware of. I went ahead and bought a RCBS 90200 hand priming tool.

Looks like you are all set up Josh. Got plenty of good advise from several members. Glad to see you got into it so easy and put some older gear to good use.
Some suggestions 1) I would also strip the 55 measure and polish the barrel and inside of 55 with some fine steel wool. slight oil and wipe dry with rags. Something that needs to be done occasionally to make throwing powder easy. Tubular powders are hard on 55 and cleaning help. Make you a top out of alum. foil.
2) strip your dies and soak in mineral oil or brake clean. Polish the neck sizing nut that holds the primer pin on with fine wool. Wrap some fine steel wool around 1/4 " dowel rod and polish and inspect the inside of dies. Make sure the tiny lube drain holes is clear. I do this about every time I start a big loading session. Keeps them clean. Keep you brass clean so you won't embed silicon in the dies and get scratches marks on cases.
3)Be careful with the chamfer tools, All you need to do is get rid of the flat face the trimmer will put on case neck. One light twist. The bullet shaped object in trimmer is caliber specific pilot.
4) You can us the spray on lubes (like Hornady one shot) but some people seem to stick case in dies and have to use case puller to get case out of die. I still us the the old RCBS lube pad and nylon brush to lube cases. Imperial wax on finger work good also. Neutral Boot Wax or (Anhydrous Lanolin) also. A small film container of #8 shot and Motor Mica work great to just stick mouth in shot to get mica (white graphite) on I/O of neck.
5) Military brass has crimped in primer that makes it hard to get primer out. The crimp will also have to be removed before you try to re prime case. There are some drill pocket cutters and also swagers that open primer pocket back.
6) Look into a drill drive for you Forester trimming tool. That way you can trim them faster. Also something I do is take good case and trim the case to book trim to length. Double check to make sure it is correct l. Trim another case to make sure #1 is correct length. Then spray paint or mark #1 case and use this as a standard to set trimmer next time. Make it faster when changing calibers
Good luck on finding supplies.
