Would you buy a new Travel Trailer without plumbing, fridge or AC? A sink, with a drain and a cabinet top container that you supply would be it. This means no gas either. Cook off of electric skillets and a microwave if you need to cook inside. At the owners will, a window unit, electric space heaters, and small fridge could be placed. You take out sink, shower/tub, toilet, pumps, faucets, supply and drain lines, furnaces, etc and you've cut the cost way down and maintenance down to the roof. The interior finished out and wired. For me, yes.
The purpose would be clean, dry, warm and cool lodging at a greatly reduced price compared to a conventional travel trailer.

Not me. What you described is just and enclosed trailer. I like all the amenities travel trailers come with. If you need to save a few bucks buy a used one.

To take it a step further, there were discussions with a fiberglass fabricator to make something that slides on and off of your own trailer. Basically what Bobo links above, without an axle made from fiberglass.

So for $22k you get a 20' enclosed trailer with an A/C unit, battery, and a light or two?? No thanks. For the same money you can buy a really, really nice 24-30' used travel trailer or 5th wheel. Hell, I just bought a 2007 33' fifth wheel for $8k. It's got 4 brand new tires on it that were over $1k and I will spend between $500-$1,000 fixing small items to get everything 100% up and working on it again. I want a place to come in and have the comforts of a rest room and other things like the kitchen in case the weather is really ugly outside.
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Not me. What you described is just and enclosed trailer. I like all the amenities travel trailers come with. If you need to save a few bucks buy a used one. ^^^this for me. I’ve mostly stayed in travel trailers and they are huge upgrade over tents and such. Now I have a new lease with a house. Nothing fancy but all rooms are big including kitchen and bath. The full tub/shower and big hot water heater I absolutely love.

I sleep in a 16+2x8 with 7.5 foot ceiling cargo trailer. We insulated it with R-19 batt insulation in the walls and roof, quietened it down a lot. We wired it, although I would do a few things different on the next go around. A small space heater and electric blankets between you and the air mattress is plenty in the mid teens. I’ve had it 6 years, never had a mouse, spider, wasp, or water leak. I’ll likely upgrade to a 24-30 foot in the near future for the kid to be able to have room. No windows means it’s very dark, also no way to escape hot air except for leaving the door open and letting bugs in. All in all, it’s 100x better than the most nested travel trailers on the place, and a hell of a lot cheaper than what Bobo posted.

You’ll get just as much insulation R value of you stuff R-19 between the walls. Only advantage to closed cell foam would be the rigidity it adds

Something between this and a backyard shed, make it where one or two guys could move it on a utility trailer and your market gets a lot bigger. I pitched it to a maker of fiberglass blinds. Too much profit in small blinds to tie up resources on large builds, in low quantities.

I used a 8x16 construction office traile. Put in a couple cabinets, built bunk beds, had a.c., electric heater, fridge, 2 burner electric cook top, coffee pot, had a small dresser. Used this for 10 + years. Built a small covered porch.

Could just rent one for a few $100 whenever you want and have it delivered, setup and cleaned for you with no insurance, maintenance or storage costs associated. Outdoorsy and RVShare basically stopped me from buying a cabin or and RV given the costs savings

Heard same with containers, I havent seen any issues. Biggest thing is vent for safety

I am pretty partial to my fifth wheel travel trailer. However, if i were to build something it would start as a 20ft shipping container. I can haul it on my goosneck easily. Or put an axle on the back and a gooseneck on the front.
I've drew up several plans for container cabins, multi container homes, etc. Take an 8 1/2ft wide low profile flat bed with a rolling tailboard, winch on the front and pull them right up on there in a few minutes. I'm gonna have
beds long enough my feet are not at the end and my arms crowding the other end. Gotta have a toilet, been there done the tent thing. I'm to old to get up when it is freezing, misting rain and sleet to go take a dump.

My camper, as we call it, is a cargo trailer with a two beds, countertop, fridge & a/c. Hauls my Pioneer too. Not much else I need.i have $5200 in it. Has served us well since 2003 & racked up likely 40,00 miles in Texas.

Interesting thread, I've put a lot of thought into low cost but adequate and comfy camp trailer over the years. Seems like if your are going to do it why not add propane? Lots of places you can go that will not have 110 power and you can't run a cooktop off 12v. Propane is cheap, easy and a game changer when you're off the grid..
