since my beloved mechanicals won't fly ( pun intended ) i'm looking for recommendations for a good cut on contact broadhead

I use Zwickey eskimos, 125 gr fly great out of my longbow.

Howard Hill Broadhead 5/16 awesome. Not cheap but do the job.

Zwickeys are good heads and not bad priced.

I have used the old bear heads and later switched to Magnus Stingers which are very similar and currently using Stingers.. If you want a 3 blade head you can use G5 Montec or Nap Hellrazor or several others like that, which are sharpened all the way to the tip and are actually to me the easiest to sharpen IMO.

I like the Zwickey's but prefer the 150 or 160 grain heads. They need sharpening when you get them. They can be re-sharpened easily if you have the tools and skill, and they will last for many kills. They come in glue-on and screw-in. You can find them from $19 to $25 for a 3-pack. If use screw-in's you can use a heavy insert or weights and go with the 125 or 135 Eskimos.

Might start thinking about your arrows as well. 3Rivers has some helpful info for that, I set my arrows up before I ever knew this existed but the ones that I built up that fly well match this very close. It can help you get in the ball park for tuning.

Just kind of depends what you want to spend and what you are looking for in blade style and number.

I have heavy inserts up from so I’m shooting a 125 grain head.....picked up 6 Kudu two blade single bevel heads. I want some 3 blade as well so I’m probably just gonna get the 3 blade Montec heads and keep things simple.

I wanted to shoot the wasp heads but they don’t come in 125 grain

I'd steer away from the Montec heads unless you like having issues with dull heads and rusting heads. They were good heads initially but they went to a pot metal type of cast and are a shadow of what they were a few years ago.

I had heard that, I never have had an issue with them but I bought 5 packs when I found I liked them 12 or more years ago. Still using those and never had a problem sharpening them. One is gapped up quite a bit but still straight and sharp except in the gaps but it has been through 1 deer, 4 hogs and one rattle snake, the snake was where most of the gaps came from hitting small rocks in the dirt after going through. Hate such a good product now is no longer so.

I've been using the Basspro brand that looks just like the Montec's. I'm told they are made by NAP. I have had zero problems with these heads.

Back in my recurve days, Bear razor heads. IIRC they were 145 gr....
